Summary

Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur audiobook is a short but moving collection of poetry and prose.

This compilation addresses different topics. It is about survival, the experience of violence, abuse and loss, and at the same time it is about love, self-love and femininity.

The collection is split into four chapters and each of them has a specific purpose: dealing with a different pain, healing a different heartache.

Listeners will be taken through a journey of the most bitter moments in life and simultaneously, through the sweetness in them, because sweetness is always present if we are willing to look.

Review

Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur audiobook is about the experiences the author went through her 21 years of life.

Every poem has so much to transmit and feels really personal, as if hundreds of events and thoughts were behind each of line. Many of the poems are about rape and abuse, and they are written with a free verse style.

Enjoying the content within the lines of this audiobook will entirely depend on each person’s point of view and personal experiences. It is understandable why some may not like it, but it also clear why so many people love it and feel identified with it, as poems are about serious issues.

Along with the poetry, Rupi Kaur includes some beautiful black and white illustrations that complement the book in a magnificent way.

Giving this book a try is definitely worth it, especially if you choose the audiobook version, that transmits a lot with the voice of the author herself.

Reading the reviews it is difficult to ascertain whether or not there is poetry in this book. Can someone clarify this?

Most of its poems are short and have a free verse style. That does not means they are not worth it.

Is Milk and Honey appropriate for a teenager?

I think teenagers could also identify with most of the poems, even if they are about mature topics, because we interpret them and give them the meaning we prefer. Those in high school should be okay with it.
