I designed it myself so don’t laugh. What it lacks in graphic artistry, it makes up for in content—let’s hope. On this site you'll find more than you ever wanted to know about me and my books. This is the inaugural year for the best-of-the-best list, so it’s doubly cool for my work to be honored. Thank you, GLBTRT. ►Check out grl2grl: short fictions. Read reviews and/or listen to an excerpt. ►Luna wins best young adult fiction award 2007 from the China Times in Taiwan. ►Between Mom and Jo is named an Honor Book for the first ever James Cook Teen Book Award given by the Ohio Library Council. The award recognizes books that promote and celebrate cultural, ethnic and social diversity; demonstrate excellence in writing; and have a wide appeal to a teen audience. What an honor! ►Read author interviews at Finding Wonderland and OASIS Journals. I always say a great interview is all about the questions. ►Join me and my friends on MySpace and Facebook. If you’ve read all my YA books—DN, KYAS, LUNA, FFX, BMJ, GRL2GRL—you are an official member of the JAP Mafia. (We use our muscle to change minds.) Everyone everywhere is welcome to join the JAP Mafia fan club. ►Luna has been nominated for four—count ‘em four—readers’ choice state book awards, including the Vermont Green Mountain Book Award, Rhode Island Teen Book Award, Missouri Gateway Book Award, and the Michigan Thumbs Up! Award. You have to love reader awards when you’re a writer, don’t you? Between Mom and Jo will be reprinted in paperback in 2008. ►Keeping You a Secret is spanning (as opposed to spamming) the globe. To the utter amazement and absolute shock of everyone I know – including me – I became an author…

An author? I never wanted to be an author. I thought authors were just a bunch of dead people. Okay, sometimes I'm brain-dead (does that count?). As a child I wasn't a reader. You’ve heard of reluctant readers? I was a recalcitrant reader. You couldn’t make me read. Reading was boring and torturous. I never read a book for fun until seventh grade when I discovered the Beany Malone books by Lenora Mattingly Weber. I loved them. Beany was real; she was alive, and she even had freckles. Every week I would rush to the Clear Lake Junior High library to check out the next book in the Beany Malone series, and if somebody else already had it I would reread one of the Beany books I'd already read—over and over again. When you discover the joy of reading, your mind opens to a world of wondrous discoveries and infinite possibilities. My greatest joy would be to write a book that would expand the world for you.
