  • I'm new to this author and had doubts before diving in... but damn, this book was one of the best I've ever read and I'm grateful I took the risk! The narration was on point, flawless. The story itself was absolutely beautiful and had me hooked from start to finish. The pacing was just right, keeping me intrigued the whole time. I absolutely adored the main characters and couldn't get enough of them! It was a heartfelt and sexy read that was just soooooo good!!!! I can't stress enough how highly I recommend this book, and I'm already itching to devour more from Penelope Douglas.
  • I didn't really enjoy 'Birthday Girl' even though it came highly recommended. The book has a dual point of view, is a standalone, and features a slow burn romantic relationship with a 19-year age gap. The romance is between a male and female character. The story is mostly suitable for all audiences, although there are a couple of scenes that might not be appropriate for younger readers. The audiobook has a runtime of 13 hours and 30 minutes, but I listened to it at a faster speed and finished it in 7 hours and 33 minutes. Both narrators did a good job, although they read quite slowly. Just a heads up, there are trigger warnings for themes like cheating, an abusive ex-boyfriend, a manipulative mom, neglectful parents, a character working at a strip club, a fight, and a car accident that caused the death of a teenager. Overall, this book wasn't a good fit for me. JP recommended it on March 22, 2022.
  • I couldn't even get through this book because it felt too lengthy for my taste. The age difference between the characters was also quite excessive. Additionally, the female narrator bothered me with her attempts to voice the male characters. It was difficult for me to connect with the characters and understand the situations they were in. Although I still had about 3 hours left to listen to, my interest just wasn't there. However, I hate the idea of not finishing books, so maybe I'll give it another shot in the future.
