Summary

David Mitchell, who you may know for his inappropriate anger on every TV panel show except Never Mind the Buzzcocks, his look of permanent discomfort on C4 sex comedy Peep Show, his online commenter-baiting in The Observer or just for wearing a stick-on moustache in That Mitchell and Webb Look, has written a book about his life.

  • I absolutely adored this audiobook...though I gotta admit, I might be a bit biased since I'm a huge fan of David Mitchell. He's just so sharp, funny, and captivating, and the way he writes in this book truly grabs your attention. The final chapter especially got me all emotional and managed to rekindle my belief in the beauty of life and love. It's a reminder that there's still hope for all of us.
  • David Mitchell, who happens to be one of my all-time favorite comedians and the co-creator of the sketch show I absolutely adore (I shouldn't sound like I'm claiming ownership, should I?), has penned a book that defies categorization. At the outset, it appears to be a lengthy compilation of various book genres, but it cleverly defies expectations (no spoilers here!). Typically, I don't delve into memoirs or celebrity gossip, but I can't resist satisfying my curiosity about the lives of artists, especially comedians, whom I deeply admire. And let me tell you, David Mitchell takes the cake on that list and delivers magnificently with a book that captures his brilliant, side-splitting, and thought-provoking voice in all its glory. From start to finish, it is an absolute joy. Thank you, Mr. Mitchell.
  • This book is absolutely fantastic with a top-notch performance! Typically, I'm not one to delve into the personal lives of celebrities, but this book manages to strike the perfect balance of humor and charm without becoming too intrusive.
  • David Mitchell: Back Story is a book that features the wit and intelligence we have come to expect from the comedian. As a fan of his work on BBC radio and talk shows, I was excited to dive into this book. However, I have to admit that it fell flat for me. It felt like listening to a friend talk about mundane things like emptying the dishwasher over a cup of coffee or a drink. While we may tolerate it in our personal relationships out of a sense of duty, I found it hard to justify paying for this type of content from David Mitchell. Despite my efforts to find something more substantial within the book, I eventually decided that I would rather call my Mom than continue investing my time in something that felt obligatory.
  • I've been a huge fan of pretty much everything Mitchell and Webb for ages, so you can imagine my excitement when I got my hands on David Mitchell's book. Let me tell you, he's an absolute gem of a person, and his book is just as delightful. I can't even begin to describe how much it moved me – there was a moment where I was practically sobbing. It's a funny and heartwarming read for sure!
  • I absolutely loved this biography audiobook by David Mitchell. It's one of my all-time favorites, and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants an amazing listening experience. Trust me, it's a must-read, as long as you're alive and breathing.
