  • I'm a huge fan of the In Death series by JD Robb. I've devoured every single one and eagerly await the release of the newest installment. To fit them into my busy schedule, I usually switch between reading and listening. However, I have to admit that this particular performance made me cringe a little. While most of the voices are spot-on, there's one major character portrayal that's incredibly annoying. It's almost enough to deter me from listening to it each time. I've encountered this issue before in other In Death audiobooks and have always voiced my disappointment. The interpretation of Detective Peabody's voice is completely off the mark, sounding more like an eight-year-old boy rather than the character we know. If this doesn't change, I'm afraid this will be the last In Death audiobook I listen to on this service. It's gotten to the point where I can barely read the book without that absurd voice echoing in my mind.
  • The story seems implausible and fails to provide adequate explanations for the characters or the seemingly unbelievable elements and actions. The concept of a Magic Coat and Coffee Chef is perplexing, as is the notion of "going vertical" over objects and other cars. The only justification given is that the story takes place in 2061. The protagonist is portrayed as a tough law enforcement officer, but her character comes across as ignorant and unpleasant. She is married to a former con artist who inexplicably assists her on cases as if he were a police officer, despite not being one. Perhaps this arrangement is legally acceptable in the future setting of the book.
