  • Wow, I must say, the author of "First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers" did a brilliant job with the choice of a 12-year-old protagonist. They truly captured the essence of the protagonist's excitement, naivete, trust, and tendency to be easily fooled. The narration was absolutely beautiful, and despite the dire and dreadful circumstances the heroine faced, there was a pervasive sense of hope throughout the story. It managed to strike a balance between intensity and lightness, leaving me feeling inspired. I was particularly intrigued by the author's portrayal of the adult characters, which avoided blaming and hating them, and instead fostered empathy and understanding. The progression of the story was captivating, with attention to detail that kept me fully engaged. And believe it or not, the bittersweet ending felt entirely believable. I absolutely adored this book. Cheers!
