Summary

In a time when technology can reveal the darkest of secrets, there's only one place to hide a crime of passion - in the heart. . . The first victim was found lying on a sidewalk in the rain. The second was murdered in her own apartment building. Police lieutenant Eve Dallas had no problem finding connections between the two crimes. Both victims were beautiful and highly successful women. Their glamorous lives and loves were the talk of the city. And their intimate relations with men of great power and wealth provided Eve with a long list of suspects - including her own lover, Roarke. As a woman, Eve was compelled to trust the man who shared her bed. But as a cop, it was her job to follow every lead . . .to investigate every scandalous rumor . . .to explore every secret passion, no matter how dark. Or how dangerous.

  • Wow, talk about intense! The narrator's attempt at accents was a bit off, and her delivery came across as overly mechanical. To make matters worse, distinguishing between the characters was a real challenge since they all blended together. I'm not sure how long she's been in the business, but I really hope she improves with more experience. If it wasn't for my deep enjoyment of the plot, I would have given up on listening altogether. I definitely won't be giving her another chance to narrate a novel. It's about time I reached out to the library, requesting that they stock the entire series rather than just a few books.
  • I grabbed six books from this series during a buy one get one free sale. My plan is to use them as background noise when there's nothing else worth listening to. Since there are five new releases coming out tomorrow, I can finally move on to something more interesting. By the way, Susan Ericksen does an incredible job narrating. For those unfamiliar with Nora Roberts' "In Death" series (written under the pseudonym J. D. Robb), it takes place in New York City, about 50 years ahead in the future. It's not really science fiction, although it does incorporate some reasonably advanced computer technology that surpasses our current capabilities. This particular book is the second installment in the series and was published in 1995. The series now consists of 43 novels and 11 novellas. The main character is Eve Dallas, a police lieutenant, and her love interest (although she's not really into love) and co-protagonist is simply known as Roarke, your typical attractive and wealthy hero found in romance novels. The books in the series contain plenty of explicit and steamy sex scenes as well as profanity, so if that's not your cup of tea, this series might not be for you. I previously reviewed the first novel in the series, "Naked in Death," earlier this month and gave it a four-star rating. However, "Glory in Death" doesn't quite live up to its predecessor. All the books and novellas in this series are murder mysteries, and true fans of the series enjoy this one in particular because Roarke is a murder suspect.
