Summary

If you’re of those ones that love grotesque plots and are still a fan of zombie’s apocalypse, then Hardcore Twenty-Four: Stephanie Plum, Book 24 Audiobook by Janet Evanovich is right for you.

In this audiobook, the hormonal bounty hunter, Stephanie Plum gets involved in what you can call a sum of all the other problems she’s faced in the last 23 books, plus zombies and Diesel. YES! Diesel seems to have ditched Lizzy and comes in into the story to try and seduce a not-so-reluctant Stephanie.

On the other side, Moretti and Ranger are not so happy with his arrival, but seem to have nothing to worry about as Plum’s has a bit of comforting for them BOTH! While all this romance is going on, the action is never left behind, zombies are gathering around some robbed graves and head corpses are appearing all over Trenton.

But Stephanie’s problems and adventures don’t end up there, as she and Lula agree to take care of a giant Boa constrictor pet, in order to catch a grave-robber called Simon Diggery. It was when the snake decided to escape to the woods that the girls discover the zombie parade.

When it comes to personal business, grandma seems to have found out a dating site and Plum’s mother has another heavy encounter with the booze. This leads Stephanie to take another long road-trip that, of course, ends up in a whole new crash. Finally, the severed-head corpses - that where at first only stolen bodies from a funeral and a morgue -, become a murder case when a homeless also appears dead and without the head behind the church. Obviously, Moretti is the officer assigned to the case and Plum decides to undertake yet another mystery resolving which involves a lot of sex and lack of commitment from all the characters. If you’re of those ones that love grotesque plots and are still a fan of zombie’s apocalypse, then Hardcore Twenty-Four: Stephanie Plum, Book 24 Audiobook by Janet Evanovich is right for you.

It keeps the same storyline as our main character: Stephanie. She is an insecure woman when it comes to her looks and her abilities but pretty secure in her relationships. She is also fearless and independent.

Men are very important in this story because they will be protecting her and she is not able to decide which one she wants to be. But that is kind of her personality and she is not going to change. This is the part that fans love. She is free.

This is another audiobook of Stephanie’s adventures. It is a perfect story for those ones who are willing to have a nice escape from the responsibilities of mature adult life. The characters are also very crazy and funny.

  • Can you please quit constantly mentioning who is speaking? Like, we get it, Grandma said, Lulu said, blah blah. It's super repetitive and totally unnecessary since we can already recognize their voices.
  • This is pure Evanovich, no doubt about it! It's got that special spark. The flow of the story is on point. The narrator nails it. The storyline has serious potential. After a few mediocre releases, this book is a rollercoaster ride of excitement, humor, and mystery. I highly suggest it for all Evanovich enthusiasts.
  • Lorelie King is absolutely phenomenal as the narrator. She possesses an incredible talent for crafting distinct voices and flawlessly recollecting them when the characters resurface in the narrative. Her prowess is truly unparalleled.
  • The time has come for this series to come to an end. Destroying a brand new car worth over $150,000 is not amusing to anyone. Additionally, it shouldn't take this many books to figure out which man you actually care about. This book introduces a third love interest, adding unnecessary complexity. How many times do we need to read the same or similar conversation between two women? This book may be profitable, but it does nothing to enhance the series. As if things weren't bad enough, zombies are thrown into the mix. Against my better judgement, I actually read this entire book just to see how ridiculous it could get. I must admit, the reader did an excellent job. Save yourself the trouble and forget about this book and the entire series. I have enjoyed the earlier books and rated them highly, but not anymore.
  • The story was pretty weak, just trying to hop on the zombie trend. And Stephanie, well she went from being in love with two guys to just being promiscuous. No more Evanovich books for me.
  • I came across multiple reviews that mirrored my own sentiments. I was genuinely excited for this latest installment and had even made a note of its release date. Ms. King consistently puts forth her best effort in her books. Lula is the primary cause for others believing I'm insane when I burst into fits of laughter. However, the Zombie storyline has overstayed its welcome. I concur with the view that Stephanie must finally choose between Morelli and Ranger; after all, we're already 24 books in. Ms. Evanovich, I adore your work, but this particular one didn't quite captivate me as much as the others.
  • I didn't really enjoy this book, it just didn't do it for me. I had to take breaks and come back to it multiple times, but it didn't improve. I was really let down; I had high hopes for this book, but it ended up being a disappointment. Hopefully, the next installment will be more satisfying.
  • I've devoured every single Stephanie Plum book in the series. However, due to being a parent of three young children, I fell behind on the recent releases. Decided to give the audiobook version a shot this time. Currently 21 minutes in, and I must confess, it's quite a challenge to listen to! The narrator's performance is incredibly subpar, as her voice sounds much older than the image of Stephanie Plum I've imagined in my mind.
  • I've been a fan of all the books in the Stephanie Plum series, and this latest installment certainly lived up to my expectations. Whether you choose to read it or listen to the audiobook, you're in for a real treat. So sit back, relax, and get ready to be thoroughly entertained!
  • I gave this book back because it seems like the series that used to be cleverly written has now become repetitive, with characters who are even more crude and vulgar, and no element of surprise whatsoever. I really hope the author doesn't plan on continuing the series beyond the 24th book.
  • I couldn't continue reading this book for long. I can't help but think that by the 3rd or 4th book, the subsequent stories were simply a cheap computer program that reused old words, names, and descriptions. In this 24th installment, Stephanie Plum, Lula, Vincent, and the male characters haven't evolved at all. Their lack of growth in comparison to the previous twenty books makes them seem tired at best, but more likely just pathetic. I wouldn't recommend wasting your money or credits on this series after the 3rd or 4th book. It's probably making a ton of money, but I can't help but question Evanovich's writing skills.
  • After going through numerous negative reviews of this book, I decided to give it a shot, considering I've already listened to the previous 23. Unfortunately, I have to agree that this is the worst one so far. The story lacked substance and felt haphazardly put together. I'm also growing weary of the whole love triangle subplot. Now Stephanie is cheating on Morelli instead of pursuing things with Ranger after they broke up. It feels like every attractive guy in this series is inexplicably infatuated with Stephanie. And now, with Diesel in the mix, I can't help but hope that Lizzy ends up with Wolf in the other series. Seriously, does Stephanie really need three men vying for her attention?! Wasn't Diesel supposed to care for Lizzy? It seems like he's just using her as a distraction while they search for the stones. I adore Janet's books, but if this keeps going down the same path, I'm afraid I'll lose interest quickly.
  • I love all of these books. The way the narrator keeps you hooked is fantastic. I've gone through most of the author's books, either reading or listening, and they've all been absolutely amazing.
  • If you're already familiar with Stephanie Plum novels, then you know what to expect. However, I was taken aback by the excessive use of dialogue tags in the first 6 minutes. It felt like the author, Janet, was just warming up before hitting her stride. The editing could have been better. As a die-hard fan of the Plum series, I continued reading despite this issue. And once I got past that point, the story followed the usual pattern. Stephanie has dinner with her mom, pays visits to funerals with her grandma, and has her usual happy moments with Morelli. Of course, Rex the dog is also taken care of. However, there is a twist this time around – Trenton gets invaded by zombies and dead bodies with missing brains are discovered. Alongside the usual car accidents and Lula's antics, there's the familiar sense of fun and enjoyment that we've come to expect from these books.
  • I've liked the books and this one was decent. It's about time to wrap up the series and move on. The entire series was great, but it's becoming increasingly challenging to get into the books as they all feel repetitive.
  • I really enjoy all the characters in this book, but it feels like nothing ever really changes. It's kind of like Groundhog Day, with the same story happening over and over again. It's somewhat entertaining, but I don't think it's worth the money I paid for the book.
  • I'm a huge fan of this series, but I'm not really into the ones that feature Diesel. Honestly, when I saw that this was the 24th book, I assumed it wouldn't have him in it. I haven't completed it yet, so I'm not sure if I'll even finish it at all.
  • I must say, this book didn't quite hit the mark for me. It had a vibe of being an extended holiday short story with Diesel. It wasn't outstanding, but it was alright in its own way.
  • Lorelei King's performance in 'Hardcore Twenty-Four: Stephanie Plum, Book 24' is top-notch, but unfortunately, Janet's effort falls flat. It feels as if she simply couldn't care less anymore.
  • Having devoured the preceding 23 books in this series, I must express my immense disappointment in "Hardcore Twenty-Four: Stephanie Plum, Book 24". The story line proved to be monotonous and utterly lacking in depth. Unfortunately, the attempts at humor fell flat, failing to elicit even a single chuckle. Furthermore, the narration left much to be desired, ranking as the poorest in quality. Suffice it to say, I eagerly anticipated the conclusion, longing for relief.
  • I absolutely adore the plot of this story. It is incredibly hilarious, keeping me entertained throughout. Lula's character is an absolute riot, and I can't get enough of her. Please continue delivering such fantastic content.
  • I'm a big fan of these Stephanie Plum books, although I must say they're starting to feel a bit worn out. It's about time we see some progress in the characters' lives. How about Stephanie getting pregnant and having a baby? It would be interesting to see Granma finding a stable partner. And maybe it's time for Ranger or Morelli to face some serious danger? This is my final spin on the dance floor.
  • I'm a big fan of Lorelei King, the narrator, so it's always a pleasure to hear her distinctive voice. However, it seems like the focus of the story has taken a backseat to the author's desire to include as many ridiculous situations as possible. Lula's behavior has become extremely irritating and it feels like the same old plotlines are being recycled. As much as I adore Stephanie Plum, maybe it's about time to retire her character.
  • Man, I don't know where they pulled this story out of, but it's straight-up awful! I mean, seriously? Zombies? I couldn't even make it to chapter 4, it was that bad. Total waste of a credit, dude.
  • I was eagerly anticipating the release of book 24 in the Stephanie Plum series, but unfortunately, it ended up being a major letdown. While I have noticed a decline in the quality of the plot and character development in some recent books, they still managed to be entertaining. However, "Hardcore Twenty-Four" felt more like one of those lightweight "between the Plums" books, and it didn't even meet their lower standards. The character of Diesel was a complete waste of time, and Stephanie's supposed interest in him has transformed her into a different person. It was one thing for her to navigate a complicated relationship with Morelli while also being involved with the mysterious Ranger during their "time out," but adding this third guy felt demeaning. The plot felt too forced with the inclusion of zombies and brain drain. Despite my disappointment, I kept reading, hoping the book would eventually improve. If someone were to read this book as their first introduction to the series, they would be utterly confused by the glowing reviews of the earlier books. This installment lacked the humor and vibrancy of its predecessors. Additionally, I feel that the character of Lula is being unfairly short-changed. As a former sex worker with limited education, she was starting to pursue some classes and could have brought some interesting trivia knowledge to certain scenes, even if it was misapplied or slightly off. Instead, she has been reduced to a one-dimensional sidekick without the depth and grit of the original Lula. On a positive note, Lorelei King's narration was the only saving grace of this production. Despite Janet Evanovich's track record of delivering laughter, humor, and colorful characters in her other books, she missed the mark with this one. I believe it's time for Stephanie to bid a wistful farewell to Ranger and, in a humorous scenario, move on with her life by marrying Morelli and embracing the role of a housewife and mother to more than just her hamster, Rex, and dog, Bob. This would give her poor mother something to fret over instead of resorting to pills and alcohol. It pains me to write this review because earlier books by Evanovich have brought so much joy and entertainment.
  • The audiobook 'Hardcore Twenty-Four: Stephanie Plum, Book 24' had some issues that left me feeling slightly disappointed. There were some sloppy details throughout the story, such as chips being served with salsa and the fact that gas is pumped by attendants in New Jersey. These small inconsistencies made me question the overall attention to detail in the book. As a reader, I didn't feel fully respected.
  • I really had a good time with this one, the twenty-fourth installment in the Stephanie Plum series. Can't wait for the next one, which will be the twenty-fifth, and even looking forward to the twenty-sixth too. Many thanks!
  • This book has a fantastic plot. As a female bail agent, I could relate to some of the situations depicted in the story. I'm a huge fan of this series and have enjoyed each installment multiple times. The inclusion of the family dynamic with the grandma character adds a great touch.
  • The Stephanie Plum series is consistently enjoyable, and "Hardcore Twenty-Four" is no different. I have a question for the critical skeptics out there: Are you willing to embrace the sense of adventure that comes with following a former ho and a former lingerie seller turned bounty hunters, but suddenly have an issue when Stephanie becomes a strong, independent woman? Is it your own internalized sexism or an inability to appreciate nuance? Regardless, don't pay attention to those foolish opinions. 😃
  • The narrator did an awesome job in this audiobook. The ability to switch voices for each character was truly impressive. However, I must admit that I wasn't completely enamored with the storyline. It wasn't as terrible as some other reviewers claimed, but it did lack the imaginative touch that usually defines Janet's portrayal of the characters. The Stephanie Plum series has always been a favorite of mine due to the hilarious situations that Stephanie and Lula find themselves in. Unfortunately, this particular book fell short in that aspect. Nevertheless, I'll definitely keep reading or listening to Janet's books.
  • I gotta say, 'Hardcore Twenty-Four: Stephanie Plum, Book 24' was a major disappointment. I've been a fan of this author's work and have devoured all of her previous books. However, after experiencing this one, I'm seriously questioning whether I'll ever invest in another.
  • I found 'Hardcore Twenty-Four: Stephanie Plum, Book 24' to be quite different from Janet Evanovitch's usual style. The story was lengthy and progressed at a leisurely pace, lacking the usual level of action I've come to expect.
  • Janet always delivers the goods. I'm constantly cracking up while indulging in the Stephanie Plum series. Naturally, this leads to some explaining to the people surrounding me as to why I can't contain my laughter.
  • I'm on the same page as most reviewers. This installment left me feeling underwhelmed. It didn't have many laugh-out-loud moments and felt like more of the same. Fingers crossed that the next book is an improvement.
  • This latest installment of the Stephanie Plum series, 'Hardcore Twenty-Four', fell short of the typical quality we've come to expect. The ending was rather sudden and lacked the usual closure for Stephanie and the key characters. It just felt a bit off. We can only hope that Ms. Evanovich will bounce back and deliver a more satisfying read in the next addition to this once-enjoyable series.
  • Lorelei King does an amazing job as the narrator of 'Hardcore Twenty-Four: Stephanie Plum, Book 24'. She really brings the characters to life. However, I was a bit let down as I didn't have that moment where I burst out laughing and had to pull over to wipe my eyes from laughing so hard, like I did with previous books. It feels like not much thought and passion went into this one. Unlike the previous 23 books, I didn't feel as carried along by the story. It almost feels like the author just went through the motions and didn't put much effort into the premise and writing. I'm sorry to say, Janet, but this one didn't capture my attention.
  • Man, this book was so cliché. The storyline felt forced and artificial. I was seriously let down, especially since I've really liked other works by Harlem Coben. I couldn't even finish it and ended up returning it.
  • I absolutely loved diving into the latest escapade of Stephanie Plum in "Hardcore Twenty-Four: Stephanie Plum, Book 24". It was another hilarious and thrilling adventure that kept me hooked from start to finish. The whole zombie theme added an exciting twist to the story, with snakes, grave robbers, and even Diesel making some memorable appearances. I'm already counting down the days until the next installment in the series.
  • I've gone through all the books in this series, read most of them and listened to the latest few. Gotta say, the story line in this one didn't really click for me. It was a struggle to get into, had to stop and start multiple times just to make it through. Even though I'm all about zombies, this one didn't quite hit the mark. But hey, I'm thrilled to move on to the next book!
  • I really dig Janet's quirky sense of humor, man. I listen to these books and crack up big time. The characters are a blast and feel like my homies from way back. Grandma is a riot and the attractive dudes are mind-blowing.
  • If you're a loyal reader of the Plum series, you'll recognize all the familiar characters in 'Hardcore Twenty-Four'. However, the plot falls short and lacks the usual excitement. Nonetheless, if you're a fan, you'll probably still find enjoyment in catching up with the lives of these characters. Just keep in mind that the story isn't up to par with what you're used to.
  • Stephanie Plum never fails to deliver a fun and entertaining experience, but this time I found myself trying to grasp the overall plot only to have it abruptly end. Sure, there are zombies involved, but their presence doesn't really lead to any significant developments. What's more, having all three of the hot guys - Morelli, Ranger, and Diesel - in the mix should have resulted in some of Steph's trademark quirky and sexy moments, but sadly, those were lacking. There was a typical subplot revolving around Diggory's snake Ethel, but it felt disjointed from the zombie storyline and didn't contribute much. It's like the book was sketched out with pastel pencils, but no one bothered to fully paint the picture. Thankfully, Lula swoops in to save the day - she had a few moments that genuinely made me burst out laughing. However, even her involvement felt somewhat incomplete. For instance, when Lula mentions having "zombie radar," it felt like a missed opportunity not to follow it up with a clever quip like "I got Zadar!" Here's hoping that the next installment, book 25, gets back on track and showcases Stephanie at her absolute best once again.
  • The plot is pretty repetitive in this one, with the same formula of someone skipping bail, Stephanie getting intimate with Ranger, then having conflicts with Morelli, and finally catching the culprit. But despite the predictability, the reason I still gave it a top rating is because it never fails to find moments that truly crack me up.
  • Lorelia King does an amazing job, bringing the story to life in a captivating way. However, I have some reservations about the last two books, as they contain derogatory comments about people of color. Janet needs to step up her game and improve on this aspect. I've thoroughly enjoyed all her other books, but the last two have raised some concerns for me.
  • I've gone through every single book in this series, and I've almost listened to all of them too. Whenever I'm in need of a little boost, I like to replay one of them while I'm working. It's safe to say that this book is another fantastic addition to the series, just like you'd expect from Janet. And let me just say, Lorelei King is absolutely amazing as the narrator. She truly brings the story to life, which makes a world of difference. Unlike some other audiobooks that I struggle to get through in the first few minutes, Lorelei keeps me hooked from start to finish. She's definitely in my top 3 favorite narrators. It's always such a delight to listen to her.
  • To be honest, I can't recall this specific book as it's been quite some time. However, I've had the pleasure of listening to all the books in this series that were narrated by Lorelei King, whether through a service or my local library, and I thoroughly enjoyed each one of them. I do agree that some of the more recent installments can feel a bit worn-out, which is why I felt compelled to leave this comment. I really wish they could recreate the magic of the earlier books in the series with King as the narrator - I would buy them without any hesitation. I can't quite remember why I started with the ones she narrated first, but if I had begun with C.J. Critt's grating narration, I highly doubt I would have continued. I disliked her interpretation so much that I haven't even given those earliest stories a listen.
  • I'm always hyped for the release of these books every year, but the recent ones have been a letdown. Diesel should have stuck to his own series, there wasn't sufficient presence of Ranger, and the situation with Morelli felt repetitive. I'm unsure if I'll keep reading the series, or at least won't buy them in advance.
  • I've always been a big fan of Janet Evanovich's writing and the Stephanie series, but unfortunately, 'Hardcore Twenty-Four: Stephanie Plum, Book 24' left me extremely disappointed. The storyline was weak, lacking any captivating character development. It felt like the writing was phoned in from previous books in the series, without any believable or particularly intriguing elements. Overall, it was a major letdown and didn't live up to the standards set by the rest of the series.
  • While not reaching the heights of her previous works, I still have a soft spot for this series and couldn't resist devouring this latest installment. However, I must admit that it's starting to become a bit too familiar and lacks the element of surprise.
  • This audiobook has a number of different plots going on. Stephanie unintentionally wrecks two of Ranger's cars and now owes him a favor. And of course, Morelli is still in the picture, but so is Diesel. Stephanie finds herself surrounded by men! Meanwhile, Stephanie's grandma is getting some attention from a man in Miami, and Stephanie has to hop on a plane to save her. As always, there are plenty of entertaining fugitive apprehensions and the usual hilarious shenanigans with Lula. Janet is definitely delivering her best work with this one. Overall, it's an awesome book!
  • I didn't really enjoy the theme of the book and found it challenging to finish. Apologies for my disappointment. On a positive note, I'm now diving into Look Alive Twenty Five and hoping that the story returns to its typical quality.
  • While reading "Hardcore Twenty-Four: Stephanie Plum, Book 24," I couldn't help but feel like I was stuck in a repetitive cycle, just like Rex on his wheel. I was hoping that the return of Diesel would bring some excitement and shake things up between Stephanie, Ranger, and Morelli. It would have been great to see Stephanie finally break free from her routine and experience some personal growth. Instead, the romantic tension between Stephanie and Ranger felt dull and uneventful. Even the Zombies, who should have brought some intrigue, failed to capture my interest. I hate to admit it, but...
