  • After much prodding, I finally mustered the courage to give this audiobook a chance. I had attempted to listen to it a few months ago but it failed to capture my attention. Unfortunately, I have to say that this is not one of Feehan's strongest works. I used to be a huge fan of her books, but lately they have become so repetitive that it's difficult to distinguish between the ones I've already read. I decided to give her another shot after taking a break from her work for several years. Boy, was that a mistake! The characters in this book were extremely clichéd, and it felt like she was determined to set a record for the number of times she could use the f-word. We get it, he's a badass. We understand that he's rough and unrefined. Let's move on, shall we? Additionally, in every single book with every single character, they claim to feel their lover with every fiber of their being. It's become tiresome and unoriginal. Can we please explore some new metaphors? As for the narrator, they were decent enough.
  • I had high hopes for 'Judgment Road', considering my love for Christine Feehan's previous novels, but unfortunately, it fell short of my expectations. While the story revolves around an enforcer for a biker gang and a woman on the run, it feels like a familiar formula that I've encountered in Feehan's other works. The main character, the enforcer, comes across as a generic archetype who refuses to change or compromise. This lack of growth and development makes it difficult to relate to him. Additionally, the female lead lacks resistance and simply accepts everything that comes her way, which further diminishes the authenticity of their relationship. Their interactions throughout the novel feel stagnant, lacking the expected emotional responses. To make matters worse, the story itself was a bit tedious and it took me an unusually long time to finish it – a whole two weeks. In fact, I even fell asleep while reading, which has never happened to me with a Christine Feehan novel before. It's disappointing, especially considering I had already preordered the next book in the series. What I truly desired from 'Judgment Road' were more genuine human interactions and believable character responses. I wanted to see some consequences for the characters' poor choices and the harm they caused to others. While I understand that happy endings are expected in this genre, I didn't need it to be laid out so early on in the novel. I longed for a bit of uncertainty regarding whether or not the enforcer would be forgiven for his transgressions.
  • I rarely throw in the towel on a book, but this one truly pushed me to the edge. I just couldn't muster the willpower to continue listening to it. The book had this strange vibe as if a guy attempted to write from a woman's point of view, but with a weak grasp on it. The thoughts felt contrived and forced, lacking the genuine flow of reality. It simply didn't have the depth and perspective I was hoping for.
  • Back in the day, when I first dove into the author's Dark series, I was absolutely smitten. The enchanting tales of the Drake Sisters and the captivating world of Sea Haven resonated with me. The romance felt genuine, and the intimate moments were tastefully incorporated. However, it seems that Ms. Feehan has lost sight of what truly matters in a story: the plot and the romance itself. Regrettably, the recent Dark books, including "Judgment Road," have left me disheartened and unable to connect. The overemphasis on explicit sexual content has transformed the book into nothing more than pornographic material. I yearn for a return to the magic of genuine romance and a compelling narrative, without the excessive focus on explicit content. Unfortunately, I have reached a point where I can no longer invest my time in reading or listening to this author's works.
  • I really wanted to connect with the main characters in 'Judgment Road', but unfortunately, I just couldn't seem to establish that bond. It's disappointing to see how the book heavily prioritizes explicit sexual content over a well-developed plot. In my opinion, the author's earlier works were much stronger and more enjoyable.
  • I hate to give negative feedback because I know authors put a lot of effort into their work, but 'Judgment Road' falls short for me. It's more like shallow, offensive erotica. The explicit scenes are excessive and made me feel uncomfortable. I tried my best to continue listening, but I couldn't get very far. It's disappointing because I had high hopes for this book.
  • I've gone through the entire dark series by this author, so I'm familiar with her writing style. However, this book feels completely different from what I've come to expect. It's either a departure from her usual style or a new direction she's exploring. I can't be certain. What I can say for sure is that the plot development in this book is severely lacking, almost like a rough draft. It feels unplanned and haphazardly put together. The main characters' relentless self-discovery and self-blame became a painful listening experience. Anya's repetitive refrain of "he doesn't like me, he wants to get me fired" was repeated way too many times, almost 15 times per chapter. And Reaper's continuous descriptions of his arousal were excessive, like he couldn't stop emphasizing how turned on Anya made him. It became a bit comical, to be honest, like six times in one minute...lol. I'm trying my best to complete this audiobook, but my interest in the characters has completely waned. There has been no significant development in their personalities thus far. Anya comes across as incredibly clueless, and Reaper just seems like a possessive bully. It's frustrating how he needs to repeat himself multiple times to get through to Anya because she either doesn't hear him or simply doesn't care. On the positive side, the narration isn't terrible. It's easy to distinguish between the various characters, and since there are quite a few, that's definitely a plus point. Typically, I make it a point to finish every book I start, but I'm seriously considering making an exception in this case. I'm only on chapter 4, and I'm already thoroughly annoyed. It's doubtful whether I'll be able to make it through the remaining 16 chapters...
  • There's an excessive amount of explicit sexual content in this book. I won't be recommending it to anyone unless they're specifically looking for that kind of material. The lack of a substantial plot is disappointing. This seems to be Mary Feehan's current writing style, and as a result, I won't be purchasing any more of her books. I'm not prudish, but I've reached my limit with the abundance of sexual content in novels. If I want to read books that focus explicitly on sex, I'll choose authors who openly specialize in that genre. I prefer books that strike a better balance between story and sexual content, where the story takes up at least 75% of the content. I have an active imagination, and I don't require such explicit detail in numerous sex scenes. I'm yearning for a captivating story, please!
  • I'm not really into all the explicit and forceful sexual content in this book. It just doesn't appeal to me, so I couldn't even get through it. Seriously, should any woman be okay with her hair being used as a means of control by a guy? I prefer books where the female characters are portrayed as strong and empowered.
