Summary

John and Jenny were just beginning their life together. They were young and in love, with a perfect little house and not a care in the . Then they brought home Marley, a wriggly yellow furball of a puppy. Life would never be the same. Marley quickly grew into a barreling, ninety-seven-pound streamroller of a Labrador retriever. He crashed through screen doors, gouged through drywall, and stole women's undergarments. Obedience school did no good -- Marley was expelled. And yet his heart was pure. Just as Marley joyfully refused any limits on his behavior, his love and loyalty were boundless, too. A dog like no other, Marley remained steadfast, a model of devotion, even when his family was at its wit's end. Unconditional love, they would learn, comes in many forms.

  • This is such an amazing story! If you're a dog owner or have ever had a furry friend, you'll totally connect with it. I had to hold off on listening to the last part because I knew it would bring me to tears, and I didn't want my makeup to be a mess before my meeting. However, I do have one regret - I should have read the book instead of listening to it. Grogan is a talented writer, but as a narrator, he falls short. There were moments when it was quite challenging to listen to his narration. Surprisingly, despite it being his own personal story, there was a lack of genuine emotion in his voice.
  • The actual story was pretty good. It had a mix of humor and sadness. Being a dog owner and lover, I could connect with a lot of it. However, I think the author may not have been the perfect choice to narrate his own story. His voice was a bit nasally and had a strong Midwestern accent. His narration lacked any emotion, making it quite challenging to listen to the whole thing. I would definitely recommend reading the physical book, but not so much the audiobook. Make sure to listen to a sample before purchasing.
  • I had a good time listening to the book, although I do agree with another reviewer that the narration could definitely use some improvement. The book does come close to being overly sentimental, which is a bit risky. Nonetheless, the stories about Marley are really enjoyable and told in a captivating manner.
  • This story is absolutely amazing. It had me laughing and crying (thankfully, my commute is long and the sad part came at the start, so I had time to pull myself together before work!). As a dog lover, I deeply related to the author's tale, but I truly believe anyone would enjoy it. The fact that the author narrates it adds a personal touch that I found incredibly endearing. I can't express how much I adored it!
  • I found this book to be an engaging and entertaining tale about the special bond between a man and his dog. However, I must admit that the writing itself is not of the highest quality. It showcases heartfelt moments that tug at the heartstrings, but I couldn't help but feel that the language used was a bit immature. Additionally, the narrator's voice may not be everyone's cup of tea, and it took me quite some time to get used to it. I would recommend listening to a sample of the audiobook before making a purchase or downloading it, just to ensure it aligns with your preferences.
  • I absolutely loved Marley & Me: Life and Love with the World's Worst Dog. It's an incredible, beautifully narrated tale that I couldn't resist. The tale of Marley brings together genuine and heartwarming relationships that made me reminisce about my own beloved dog who has since passed away. She had that identical, lovably insane gaze and would joyfully wag her whole body while carrying a stick in her mouth, spreading love to everyone she met. This book is truly outstanding.
  • At the start of the book, I cringed at the narrator's voice. If the author doesn't undergo voice training, he shouldn't be given the opportunity to narrate. It would be a relief for readers! Nevertheless, the parts about Marley in the book were enjoyable and touching. I agree with a previous review that less personal family details and more stories about Marley would have been preferable. Nonetheless, the content about Marley was exceptional, making it a recommended read for dog enthusiasts.
  • For all the dog lovers out there, 'Marley & Me: Life and Love with the World's Worst Dog' is an adorable and delightful story. However, the audiobook recording may be a bit bothersome. The narrator's pace is quite sluggish, reminiscent of someone speaking to a group of young children. Nevertheless, once you manage to overlook this aspect, the book itself is full of enjoyment and charm.
  • I just couldn't get into the narrator's voice. It didn't feel like there was any genuine connection between his voice and the words. However, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a heartwarming and relatable story.
