  • This audiobook had a mix of positive, negative, and raw elements. It truly depicted the harsh realities of real life. Both the narrative and the storyteller held my attention throughout the entire experience.
  • I've always felt a deep connection with Gregg Allman and the music he created. "My Cross to Bear" is an incredible biography that delves into the life of one of the most legendary rock and blues artists of the last half-century. You definitely need to check this out and give it a listen.
  • I absolutely adored every single moment of 'My Cross to Bear'. The writing is absolutely stunning, and the narration is spot-on! This audiobook is an absolute must for anyone who is passionate about music.
  • After immersing myself in a plethora of music autobiographies, I can confidently say that this particular one surpasses the rest in terms of its shallow content, excessive self-importance, and lack of profound introspection. It is disappointingly void of any intriguing revelations, apart from the author's accounts of his sexual escapades. Despite this, it won't diminish my appreciation for the band's music. However, I do regret investing my time and money into this book. The only saving grace are the passages that include recollections from other individuals.
  • I believe Gregg penning this memoir was yet another attempt to cleanse his soul. It would have been great to have an epilogue right before Gregg's passing, shedding light on the resolution of the tension between him and Dickey Betts. Personally, I was eager to delve deeper into Gregg's songwriting prowess. I wanted to grasp the entire process, not just for Gregg but for the entire "Brothers" as well. What were his thoughts and emotions while crafting so many hits? I wasn't particularly interested in the explicit details of his sexual preferences or drug use, as it was evidently a part of the era's culture. Gregg's musical brilliance remains unparalleled compared to today's artists. He possessed the trifecta of talent: writing, playing, and singing. However, this book left me yearning for more insight into those very aspects. I wanted to uncover the musical genius of Gregg, rather than solely focusing on his fractured soul.
  • Man, being stuck with your "fans" who always want you to fit into their molds is pure hell, especially for musicians. They can't stand it if you're just being yourself. Thankfully, this book, "My Cross to Bear," exposes Gregory Allman in his truest form. It's all him, no one else. It's a touching journey into the depths of a gentle yet tormented soul. Give it a read without forcing your own expectations on it. Trust me, it's absolutely fantastic.
  • I'm a big fan of the Allman Brothers. I even had the chance to meet Greg Allman while he was crashing at a friend's place in the Bay Area. We both agree that Duane was the one who made the band special. However, after reading this book, my opinion of Greg has taken a hit. To make matters worse, the narrator of the audiobook does a terrible job. It's so bad that I can't even bring myself to listen to any other books he narrates. Save yourself the trouble and just stick to listening to their albums instead of wasting your time on this book. By the way, Keith Richards is the real deal.
  • I got my hands on the hardcover version of 'My Cross to Bear' as soon as it hit the shelves in 2012. I actually ended up purchasing four copies of this book because I loved it so much. I kindly gave away two copies as gifts and made sure to keep one in each of my homes. The narration in this audiobook is absolutely flawless, it truly makes you feel like Gregg Allman himself is personally speaking to you.
  • In this memoir, the author comes across as a self-centered, chauvinistic addict who consistently avoids taking accountability for his mistakes and inappropriate conduct. His multiple marriages are depicted as a mere inconvenience rather than having genuine emotional connections with individual people. Although his children are briefly acknowledged, there is minimal emphasis on their significance, like the author making a big deal about living with Elijah Blue during his early years. The narrative is filled with instances of drug and alcohol abuse, as well as excessive promiscuity, including engaging with three women simultaneously in separate hotel rooms. Overall, this memoir can be described as a captivating yet troubling account.
  • I absolutely adored this book, but I couldn't stand the language used in it. I mean, I get that it's just how Greg talks, with all those curse words and everything. However, I'm really glad that he eventually found inner peace and gained a deeper understanding of what truly matters in life.
