  • I discovered this book while listening to the Ben Franklin's World podcast. Erica, the author, did an excellent job of portraying the lives of early American slave women, which compelled me to read the book. The captivating story of Ona Judd piqued my interest, especially since I was unaware of the intricate history and involvement of George and Martha Washington in slavery. This narrative provides valuable insights into the realities of slavery, offering both the documented words of Ona and informed speculations about the experiences of other enslaved women during that era.
  • I really liked the story, although it did feel a bit repetitive and long-winded. I get that there's a scarcity of records about Enslaved people during that era, but I wasn't particularly fond of the author's speculation on Ona's emotions and thoughts throughout the book.
  • I really enjoyed reading "Never Caught" because it presents factual history in a captivating storytelling style. It's an incredibly informative and realistic book that sheds light on the experiences of both slaves and slaveholders, providing possible reasons behind their actions.
  • I love history but this book was extremely hard to listen to. The narrator made very little effort to offer any inflection in her voice even with the seemingly little dialogue the book offered. I'm not sure it would have been any more entertaining with a different narrator.
