Summary

The Dashwood sisters are very different from each other in appearance and temperament; Elinor's good sense contrasts with Marianne's warm but excessive sensibility. Both struggle to maintain their integrity and find happiness in the face of a competitive marriage market in Jane Austen's first published novel.

  • I absolutely adored Rosamund Pike's narration of this timeless masterpiece. It's remarkable how she made me discover numerous subtle details that I had previously overlooked. The way she brought Mrs. Jennings to life was particularly outstanding, leaving me thoroughly impressed.
  • Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen is an absolute delight to read, thanks to Austen's sharp wit and literary brilliance. She effortlessly captures the complexities of human nature and skillfully highlights the absurdities of society, keeping a smile on my face throughout. The story itself, despite its heartbreaks, provides a satisfying and contented feeling. Rosamund Pike's narration in this audiobook is truly exceptional. Her portrayal of the characters, combined with her beautiful accent and seamless flow, adds an extra layer of enjoyment to the story. As someone who remembers Pike's portrayal of Jane in the 2005 film adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, I couldn't think of a more fitting choice for the narrator. I highly recommend this version, and I was especially pleased to find it available at no additional cost through my membership.
  • I was seriously blown away by Pike's talent in pride and prejudice, so I decided to give this one a listen too, and let me tell you, I was not let down. I had already watched the movie and liked it, but the book has a whole new level of depth. What really stood out to me were the quirky characters that were played for laughs in the movie.
