Summary

Named one of the top books of 2009 by the Times Literary Supplement (London), this controversial and compelling audiobook from Dr. Stephen C. Meyer presents a convincing new case for intelligent design (ID), based on revolutionary discoveries in science and DNA. Along the way, Meyer argues that Charles Darwin's theory of evolution as expounded in The Origin of Species did not, in fact, refute ID. If you enjoyed Francis Collins's The Language of God, you'll find much to ponder-about evolution, DNA, and intelligent design-in Signature in the Cell.

  • Stephen Meyer has done a fantastic job in presenting his argument for the superiority of Intelligent Design Theory in his book "Signature in the Cell: DNA and the Evidence for Intelligent Design." He meticulously explores both sides of the debate between methodological naturalism or neo-Darwinian evolution versus Intelligent Design (ID). Drawing upon the available evidence, Meyer convincingly explains why he believes ID is the most compelling theory. Moreover, the author skillfully tackles the criticisms directed towards ID as a scientific theory, effectively refuting them. It's worth noting that while the book is aimed at non-scientific readers, it does contain a fair amount of scientific and technical content, which may require some concentration. Regardless of your stance in the ongoing discussion or debate, "Signature in the Cell" offers an enlightening and thought-provoking read that is definitely worth your time.
  • Before the germ theory was discovered in the late 19th century, people had no idea about the causes and cures of diseases. Before the discovery of DNA and its encoded information, there was no understanding of how life originated. If Charles Darwin were alive today, I think he would not have proposed "chance alone" as the mechanism for life, considering the complexity of DNA. I was looking for a contemporary examination of Darwinism in light of recent genomics discoveries, and Steven Meyer delivered exactly what I was seeking. His work was thoroughly updated and pertinent to exploring the role of Intelligent Design in the creation of life.
  • I had a tough time grasping his arguments. It seemed like he could have made his points more succinctly. Although I agree with some of his conclusions, this book didn't really resonate with me. I found a few of his arguments lacking in strength. On the other hand, I did appreciate his insights into mathematics and computer science.
