  • I can't stress enough how this breathtaking novel, which unfolds over a span of over 50 years, has deeply touched my heart. The emotional journey of the daughter, as she embarks on a quest to find her father and uncovers the secrets of his past, is truly remarkable and poignant. Trust me when I say this, you absolutely need to read it.
  • Some of my buddies really dug this book, but I personally felt it was overly elaborate and exaggerated. The author really pushed for me to buy into all the far-fetched occurrences in the name of Eastern spirituality and love, but neither the storyline nor the characters felt authentic to me. (Spoiler Alert! ) There were so many unanswered questions. Like, why did Tin-Win stay in America for such a long time? You can only rely on Burmese traditions to justify that for so long. And why did he end up dying in MiMi's arms? Was he sick? It was just so contrived and hard to believe. Instead of shedding tears, I wanted to retch. It was pretty much the same throughout the entire book, in my humble opinion. Sorry, but it just wasn't worth the time.
  • I had a great time with this book, it came highly recommended and I had no idea what to expect! It's on par with Cutting for Stone, really well-written and impossible to put down. Plus, the ending took me by surprise. I definitely give it a thumbs up too!
