Summary

When Dr. Rennie Newton is summoned to jury duty, she brings to the courtroom the same level of competence that she displays in the operating room. Her commitment to precision compels her to deliver a not guilty verdict in the murder case against notorious contract killer Ricky Lozada. It will be the most regrettable decision in her life...because Rennie's trial with Lozada doesn't end with his acquittal. Her carefully structured life begins to crumble when a rival colleague is brutally slain. Lozada's menacing shadow looms over the murder, but it's Rennie the investigators focus on as a prime suspect. The privacy she has cultivated and protected at all costs is violated by the police as well as Lozada. And when he begins an earnest courtship, it becomes terrifyingly clear that he is obsessed with having her. Wick Threadgill is a detective on indefinite leave from the Fort Worth PD, who has his own, personal agenda for the contract killer. Temperamental, bitter, and driven by loyalty and love, Wick is determined to destroy Lozada. In order to defeat Lozada -- and save their lives -- Rennie and Wick form an uneasy alliance. Mistrustful of each other, they know only one thing with absolute certainty, when this killer strikes, they won't see it coming. The Crush will take you on a tortuous path through a twisted sociopath's eerie obsession, a haunted man fragile hopes for redemption, and a woman's heart as she struggles to face the greatest fear -- to open herself to love.

  • This audiobook is packed with intricate details and an abundance of characters, each with their own unique storylines. They are all complex in their own right and come together seamlessly in the end.
  • While I truly enjoyed reading this book, I found it to be somewhat predictable, much like many other love stories. With the exception of the brother, who could be unpleasant at times and came across as excessively obsessive, I found the characters to be likeable. The pacing felt rushed, as if everything was crammed together to quickly wrap up the story once they returned to the present. I was bothered by how open the main character was with the young neighbor girl. She shared too much information with a child who wasn't even a teenager yet, in my opinion. I didn't feel that it was necessary to include what the child sees. However, I thoroughly enjoyed the two narrators and their interactions. That's what fascinated me about this tale.
  • I gotta say, 'The Crush' was a total no-brainer when it came to the plot, but it had that charm that just made my heart melt. What really kept me hooked were the two amazing narrators who brought the story to life.
  • I gave the audiobook version of 'The Crush' a go, and man, it had me hooked! I was totally engrossed and couldn't bear to pause the playback. This little gem of a love story had a sweet, satisfying ending that left me feeling all warm and fuzzy inside.
  • "The Crush" is an absolute treat, with its delectable, cozy, and nostalgic atmosphere that leaves you feeling completely fulfilled. Sebastian and Andi make the ultimate romance pair, effortlessly breathing life into Ward's captivating characters. It's a truly satisfying experience that warms the heart.
  • This love story had me hooked from start to finish! It was filled with sweetness, intense passion, and heartwarming moments that brought tears to my eyes. I couldn't get enough of it! Absolutely perfect!
  • I can't believe how amazing this book is every time I pick it up. It blows my mind that authors can come up with such captivating stories. "The Crush" is no exception. From the moment I began reading, I was hooked. It grabbed my attention and took me on an emotional rollercoaster, but it was absolutely worth it. I can't even express how much I adore Sebastian, York, and Andi Arndt's narration in this audiobook. I give it a perfect rating. Trust me, you don't even need my recommendation to read this, it's a must!
  • The Crush is an average tale for the most part. However, it becomes incredibly thrilling as it progresses towards the end. I'm a fan of stories involving best friends' little sisters, but this one just felt uninspiring to me. Nevertheless, the last quarter of the book was fantastic! It was filled with lots of action involving all the characters.
  • I'm a big fan of Penelope Ward (and Vi Keeland) novels. This particular one was yet another enjoyable audiobook experience. I did find it a bit sluggish in the middle, with the characters going back and forth, but overall, it was a decent book. Andi Arndt and Sebastian York, as always, delivered exceptional performances! I'll forever remain a devoted fan of Penelope Ward and can't wait for her next release!
  • Outstanding! I'd never read or listened to Sandra Brown before. This is one of my favorites now. The characters reminded me a little of Mel Gibson and Danny Glover in the Lethal Weapon movies. I couldn't wait to get back in my car to listen.
  • This was a pretty good story. I think it could have used a little more excitement to it with the Lozada character and Renny. It needed something that would make you not want to put the book down (or turn it off) I would still read another she wrote.
  • The narrator was awesome. Tom Wopat did an outstanding job. Great story. It really draws you in. If you are listening on your way somewhere, you will have to park and listen a little more...you may even have to bring your CD player and bring it inside with you. I was popping in one CD after another...like an addict. Great job.
  • Sandra Brown always writes and good story that keeps you wanting more, and Crush did just that. Her charcter build-up is also done well, just gives you enough information about the person for the situation necessary and before you know it you know the person very well. I suggest that you read this one; another great audio by her is Envy.
