  • Listening to C.S. Lewis reading his own work is truly magnificent. However, the commentary provided by Coulson was uninspiring and unnecessary. Understanding Lewis's writings does not require great intellectual capacity, and his logical reasoning is easily graspable. Hence, the inclusion of worthless summaries and clichés, reminiscent of shallow Evangelicals, is akin to the detested "modern" language Shakespeare. Let Lewis's own words take center stage. No other voice is necessary or desired.
  • I picked up this audiobook because it claimed to be the complete, unabridged version. However, it turned out to be quite different from the original book. Needless to say, I was let down by the misleading description.
  • I had to give this one a few listens to fully grasp all the subtle nuances of Lewis's delivery. But let me tell you, it's definitely relatable to our day-to-day existence. It offers a crystal-clear perspective on the different forms of love and how they manifest in our everyday experiences.
  • I felt really deceived...I was completely anticipating the genuine audiobook experience only to discover that these are actually lectures. They're great for what they are, but definitely not what I expected from an audiobook!
  • Having Charles Colson on board for this audiobook is just plain irritating. We really don't need an introduction from him, and his commentary is just plain dumb and lacks depth, not adding anything valuable to the experience except wasting precious minutes on mindless chatter. However, the book itself and its content are excellently presented, and it's an absolute joy to listen to CS Lewis.
  • This book dives deep into the technical aspects of love. Personally, that wouldn't be a deal-breaker for me. However, my overall rating for this book might be more influenced by my expectations. I was under the impression that this would be a discussion centered around what the Bible has to say about love. Instead, it focuses more on the perspectives of the intellectual elite. Lewis does present some intriguing viewpoints and provides food for thought. If that's what you're seeking, then you might enjoy this book. However, I would caution against approaching it with the expectation of a biblical exploration of love. While Lewis does reference the Bible at times, it's evident that his conclusions aren't solely based on it. He does touch on how his conclusions impact love in relation to God, but it feels like an attempt to explain God's ways through human wisdom. Nevertheless, if you're interested in a book about love written by an intelligent individual with a Christian perspective, this book might be a good fit. Now, let's address a minor annoyance in the book. Lewis occasionally comes across as rather arrogant, and that could have hindered my appreciation for his message.
  • I heavily depend on feedback from fellow readers prior to buying a book. It's astonishing to me that this particular book has garnered such a high rating. It nearly put me to sleep, it was incredibly boring.
