  • Winston Groom is hands down one of the top-notch historians of our time. No one does justice to his writings like Robertson Dean when it comes to narrating. I'm definitely going to suggest this book to everyone, just like I've already done with the other ones I've either read or listened to. It would be amazing if more folks would dig into history and get a kick out of works like this. Even my kids are into Groom's stuff when we listen to it. These generals and their incredible achievements, which are shared in this book, have the power to motivate and move thousands, just like they once did. If only people would pick this up and give it a read, they'd realize what phenomenal men they were. Brave as lions, tough as bulls, a rare breed that we rarely come across in modern times. May all the young men and women learn from them and respond to their call to be the absolute best they can be for the greater good of the world.
  • And extraordinary window into the lives of three complex men who are often portrayed as two dimensional characters in war films. Groom masterfully intersperses narrative with quotations to take the reader into the subjects' minds, as well as their times. John Branch
