Summary

Using a cutting-edge technology called DHI - which stands for both Disney Host Interactive and Daylight Hologram Imaging - Finn Whitman, an Orlando teen, and four other kids are transformed into hologram projections that guide guests through the park. The new technology turns out, however, to have unexpected effects that are both thrilling and scary. Soon Finn finds himself transported in his DHI form into the Magic Kingdom at night. Is it real? Is he dreaming? Finn's confusion only increases when he encounters Wayne, an elderly Imagineer who tells him that the park is in grave danger. Led by the scheming witch, Maleficent, a mysterious group of characters called the Overtakers is plotting to destroy Disney's beloved realm, and maybe more. This gripping high-tech tale will thrill every kid who has ever dreamed of sneaking into Walt Disney World after hours and wondered what happens at night, when the park is closed.

  • I'm a huge fan of the Kingdom Keeper series and I've read all of the books multiple times. So, you can imagine my excitement when I stumbled upon the audiobook version. It's perfect for having in the background, and I find that I retain more information from audiobooks in general. (Although, I must say, I don't think I've missed any details after reading this particular book multiple times!) However, I do have one complaint about how some of the characters were portrayed. The narrator did a fantastic job with Finn's character, and Maybeck was also well done. But my favorite character, Willa, was read in a way that made her sound whiny. Charlene, on the other hand, came across as obnoxious. And for some reason, Philby had a very strong Australian accent, when he's supposed to have just a hint of a British accent. I understand that the narrator needed to exaggerate the vocal choices for each character to make them distinct for listeners, and I must admit that the range of voices the narrator could do was impressive. However, I couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed with how some of my beloved characters were portrayed. Oh, and don't even get me started on poor Dillard. No offense to Gary, but I do appreciate the effort put into creating the audiobook. I just wish it had been done by a fan!
