  • I used to ignore Elizabeth George books because I thought they were a bit rigid and old-fashioned. However, this book proved me completely wrong. It has made me eager to go back and dive into all of her previous works.
  • This book is quite long and introduces both familiar characters from George's previous novels and a range of new ones. The story is intricate and involves the intertwining lives of many troubled individuals. As someone who is part of the clergy, I particularly valued a significant clue in the plot. While the main storyline is resolved, there is a sense of openness to what may happen in the future. Overall, the book is captivating from start to finish. The narration by Vance is done in a subtle yet captivating manner.
  • I previously read and thoroughly enjoyed one of Elizabeth George's mystery novels, so I didn't hesitate to purchase this one. However, I was taken aback by the explicit sexual content that appeared quite early in the book. I must say, Ms. George, that's not my cup of tea. Nevertheless, I am grateful for the service's accommodating return policy, which allowed me to easily return the book.
  • Being a huge fan of Barbara Havers and Lynley, I must say I was disappointed to discover that this particular story dragged on with at least 8 superfluous chapters. The narrative had its fair share of frustrating and aggravating moments, and the ending felt less like a satisfying resolution and more like a moment of relief. It was just a relief to be done with the book!
  • I attempted to savor the book, but it was impossible to prolong the experience. Barbara's tap dancing was incredibly amusing and endearing. The book presented intricate human situations and obstacles. And now, the anticipation for the next installment commences.
  • Once again, this book was incredibly captivating, with numerous storylines intricately interwoven, like a delicious plate of top-notch spaghetti. You become deeply involved in the lives of vastly different characters who eventually converge in a wonderfully complex narrative. I hope Ms. George continues to write for a very long time!
  • I really wish Elizabeth George would go back to her earlier style of storytelling, with more gripping plots and engaging prose. The beginning of "The Punishment She Deserves: A Lynley Novel" had me hooked and excited, but then something happened and the whole story just fell apart. It's disappointing to see that her long-standing characters have become predictable and monotonous in their actions. Maybe we're just expecting too much from authors who have been confined to writing within the same series for so many years.
