This audiobook is pretty decent. The protagonist is surprisingly clever, considering they're only 16 years old. I was caught off guard by the unexpected events that occurred within the first few minutes, but luckily, it didn't continue throughout the story. The key to surviving a zombie apocalypse, as outlined in this book, includes being prepared (step 1), finding refuge in a secluded farm (step 2), and avoiding Nashville at all costs (step 3).
This audiobook is a total blast! The story is so gripping and the narration is top-notch. It's definitely a worthwhile use of your credit. I couldn't wait and immediately jumped into the second book of this series!
The story felt a bit unrealistic, like something straight out of a teenager's wildest dreams. A zombie apocalypse where everyone relies on the wisdom of a high school student? Even seasoned war veterans admit that this teenager is smarter than them, and he manages to outsmart all the jocks thanks to his superior intellect. On top of that, he ends up winning the affection of the only two uninfected women left on the planet. It just seemed a bit too far-fetched for my taste.
Another aspect that didn't sit well with me was the constant use of unnecessarily complex vocabulary. It almost felt like the teenage protagonist was trying to prove his superiority by showcasing his extensive knowledge. It came across as a bit forced and didn't flow naturally within the story.
All in all, the book did manage to keep me entertained, but it wouldn't make it onto my list of top reads. I probably wouldn't bother picking up the second book in the series unless I had no other options available.
