I really enjoyed the idea behind the story, but I have to admit that the excessive details and lack of excitement made it lose its appeal for me. It felt like the characters were predetermined, which resulted in them feeling forced into the plot instead of naturally fitting into it. As a result, I found it difficult to connect with the characters and fully engage with the story. Despite this, I must say that I was captivated by the setting of the world, even though I couldn't fully immerse myself in it.
This audiobook was absolutely fantastic! It's easily one of the greatest books I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. The attention to detail was mind-blowing, and the way it captured the essence of its time period was outstanding. I couldn't get enough of it, and I'm craving more. I seriously hope there's a movie adaptation or a sequel in the works because this story deserves to be seen and enjoyed by a wider audience!
If I had known beforehand that this book focused on the romantic relationship between two teenage girls, I might have reconsidered my purchase. However, setting that aside, I found the "what-if" concept intriguing, and the storytelling itself was compelling. I decided to stop listening at chapter 8 simply because the depiction of the girls kissing didn't align with my personal interpretation of biblical teachings. Additionally, it might be advisable to provide a warning to parents since this content might not be suitable for children's books.
