  • I attempted to like this book, but I was completely overcome by the terrible performance of the narrator. His excessive emphasis on certain words and poor voice acting drove me crazy to the extent that I couldn't focus. Essentially, I heard the words he was speaking, but I couldn't genuinely absorb them. If you want to truly enjoy this novel, I suggest getting the hard copy.
  • I couldn't make it through this audiobook. As someone who has read numerous accounts of military experiences in Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, and more, the narration just didn't meet my expectations or hold my interest. The narrator's style would have been better suited for describing a National Geographic documentary on dingos hunting in the outback, but it didn't work for this book. I really wanted to enjoy the story, but the narration ended up being too distracting. Apologies, but it just didn't work for me.
  • This audiobook recounts a real-life experience, capturing a fleeting moment in time through the eyes of the brave soldiers on the front lines. It sheds light on a country so secluded from the modern world that it's hard for us, the free people of the United States, to truly comprehend. The immense sacrifices made by our fellow countrymen and women to aid a nation incapable of helping itself is simply mind-boggling. The unwavering dedication of all the service members involved deserves our utmost respect and gratitude. It serves as a reminder that sometimes we fight not only for ourselves but for others as well. The day we are forced to defend our own, our enemies will live in fear and remorse. While we hope that day never arrives, it is crucial that we remain prepared.
  • I apologize, but I have to say that the book doesn't quite hit the mark for me. While I have immense respect for the author's first-hand experience in Bala Murghab, Afghanistan, I found the writing style and the performance to be a disappointing combination. It feels as though they were trying a bit too hard to create an intense atmosphere, but it falls short.
  • I really regret not checking the reviews before purchasing this audiobook. It was a struggle to finish it. I'm an avid listener of audio books, particularly those about special operations and military history, but the narrator's style completely turned me off. However, since I had already bought the book, I wanted to give it a chance and listen to it. Unfortunately, I missed out on a significant portion of the book because I couldn't help but think how terrible the narration was. I should have invested in the printed version instead. From what I did manage to grasp about the story, it seemed like it would have been worth reading.
