Summary

On the planet Tython, the ancient Je’daii order was founded. And at the feet of its wise Masters, Lanoree Brock learned the mysteries and methods of the Force—and found her calling as one of its most powerful disciples. But as strongly as the Force flowed within Lanoree and her parents, it remained absent in her brother, who grew to despise and shun the Je’daii, and whose training in its ancient ways ended in tragedy.

  • The backstory of the book is quite confusing. The characters find themselves trapped in a system with several habitable worlds and various species, but there is no explanation as to how they got there. The Jedi, known as Je'edi, are meant to maintain a balance between the light and dark sides of the Force. They wield real swords that can somehow deflect blaster bolts. The main conflict revolves around a sibling rivalry, which feels rather cliché. One sibling is powerful in the Force while the other tries to run away from it. It was difficult to become emotionally invested in any of the characters since they all consistently made illogical decisions that were out of character. It seemed like the authors had a story they wanted to sell and simply threw it into the Star Wars universe without providing any explanations or connections to the existing lore. It appears that with Lucas no longer involved, the writers had free rein to do as they pleased.
