  • I've gone through all of Mr. Burke's books, both reading and listening to them, throughout the years. However, the recent ones have left me questioning why I even bothered. This particular book, 'Robicheaux: A Novel,' proved to be too much for me. The storyline is incredibly gloomy, and Mr. Patton's narration only added to the funeral-like atmosphere. It got to the point where I had to abandon it altogether.
  • As usual, Will Patton did an excellent job, as he always does. While the Robicheaux novels are always imbued with a sense of darkness, this particular installment was even darker than its predecessors. The abundance of side plots made it slightly more challenging to keep up with the overall narrative. Nevertheless, being avid fans of James Lee Burke, we still thoroughly enjoyed it.
  • I've gone through the whole series and this book was hands down the weakest of the bunch. The plot was lackluster and the character development was even more disappointing. The ending was a letdown and there were so many unresolved storylines. If you have a burning desire to delve deep into the topic of alcoholism and aren't concerned about being captivated by a mystery, then give it a shot. Otherwise, I'd recommend seeking your thrills elsewhere.
