This book never slows down for a second. The situations and characters feel real. The main plot about ineffective leaders and a villainous enemy will really get your blood boiling. The final showdown (as well as all the other heroic military action) is totally unrealistic - but boy is it enjoyable and thrilling. The writing style is sharp and concise. The dialogue, while a bit vulgar (definitely not for listening with young kids in the car), suits the situation and adds tension and depth to the characters. The military technical details are well explained without going overboard. They really help paint a vivid picture in your imagination. It was a great surprise to have Afghan heroes in the story. The twist at the end, in my opinion, raised the stakes and highlighted the personal dedication of the heroes and the narrow-mindedness of the politicians. If you're into action and seeing bad guys get their comeuppance, this is the perfect book for you.
