Amoral, cunning, ruthless, and instructive, this piercing work distills three thousand years of the history of power into 48 well-explicated laws. This bold volume outlines the laws of power in their unvarnished essence, synthesizing the philosophies of Machiavelli, Sun-Tzu, Carl von Clausewitz, and other infamous strategists. The 48 Laws of Power will fascinate any reader interested in gaining, observing, or defending against ultimate control.

  • I reckon many folks might consider this book to have a cynical philosophy, but personally, I really dug it. The 46th and 47th laws, in particular, stood out to me. The narration was solid, and it made for an enjoyable listen. You probably gotta give it a few spins to fully grasp the subtleties the author is getting at, but there's a ton of wisdom packed in this book. Kudos to the author!
  • Once you surpass the ten laws mark, you can't really expect anything else, right? This book goes way deeper into the workings of power rather than being a typical self-help guide on how to become powerful. The listener quickly grasps the idea that power is highly dependent on the situation at hand. The laws of power are not isolated from each other; they intertwine in a complex landscape, and the author provides numerous stories illustrating how things can go awry. Each law is later contradicted by another, making it challenging to determine the best path to follow. The author is fully aware of this complexity. I personally believe that this book serves more as a reference guide, an encyclopedia of power that one should keep close by and revisit every now and then. Listening to it from start to finish might not be the most effective approach to fully grasp and appreciate its content.
