  • Even though it's been a hundred years since its publication, H.G. Wells' "The War of the Worlds" still manages to have a contemporary feel to it. As per usual, Vance's performance in narrating the audiobook is superb.
  • This audiobook was quite different from what I had anticipated. Having seen the 1953 film adaptation featuring Gene Barry, I never considered the original time and setting of the story. It came as a surprise to me that the book was actually written in 1897 and took place in England, rather than California. What startled me the most was the reaction of the public towards the arrival of the Martians. Prior to their attacks, there was no sign of panic or chaos among the people. They appeared to be remarkably accepting of the existence of Martians. I found the storyline to be captivating, and Simon Vance's narration was, as always, excellent.
