  • I couldn't wait to start reading this book, but as always, it was over too quickly and now I have to wait for the next one. This installment in the Kate Burkholder series offers a unique premise compared to the previous books. Kate ventures out of Painters Mills and immerses herself in an undercover operation in a New York Amish community. I was skeptical at first and missed the familiar characters, but the suspense towards the end of the book kept me hooked and I couldn't put it down. I'm a fan of Tomasetti, although I wish their relationship wasn't so confrontational all the time. Nevertheless, the moments of reconciliation and making up were satisfying. The narration of this audiobook was solid. Overall, it's a fantastic book and I'm already eagerly anticipating the next one in the series.
  • I want to give a shoutout to Ms. Castillo for writing the Kate Burkholder series. I've been hooked on these books for a while now and just finished the latest installment. Let me tell you, they keep getting better and better. Kate constantly struggles to maintain her independence within her relationship, and I'm rooting for her to keep it that way. I was getting a bit concerned about all the killings happening in Painters Mills, as it seemed a bit far-fetched for such a small community. However, Castillo takes Kate on a journey back in time and to another state, which adds a refreshing twist to the story. If I had to point out one thing that bothered me, it would be the fact that every little police term in the book is explained, but there are some numbers thrown around by Kate and her partners that are left unexplained unless you're a cop. But overall, I absolutely adore this series.
  • This book is awesome, the plot moves quickly and keeps you hooked. The narration is top-notch, really adds to the experience. Once again, Kate Burkholder proves she's a force to be reckoned with and comes out alive to share her story.
