Summary

Every seven years, on the seventh day of the seventh month, strange things happen. It began when three young boys - Caleb, Fox, and Gage - went on a camping trip to the Pagan Stone. And twenty-one years later, it will end in a showdown between evil and the boys who have become men - and the women who love them... This modern-day legend draws reporter and author Quinn Black to Hawkins Hollow with the hope of making the eerie happening the subject of her new book. It is only February, but Caleb Hawkins, descendent of the town founders, has already seen and felt the stirrings of evil. Though he can never forget the beginning of the terror in the woods twenty-one years ago, the signs have never been this strong before. Cal will need the help of his best friends, Fox and Gage, but surprisingly he must rely on Quinn as well. She, too, can see the evil that the locals cannot, somehow connecting her to the town - and to Cal. As winter turns to spring, Cal and Quinn will shed their inhibitions, surrendering to a growing desire. They will form the cornerstone of a group of men and women bound by fate, passion, and the fight against what is to come from out of the darkness...

  • The storyline itself was quite engaging. However, if you're not a fan of explicit scenes, be prepared to skip ahead on your MP3 player from time to time. My main issue with this book, and the reason for my 4-star rating, was the narrator. While he possessed a deep and resonant voice, his attempts at voicing female characters were reminiscent of Nathan Lane in "The Birdcage". To put it in terms that younger folks would understand, he sounded a lot like Chris Crocker from his famous YouTube video, passionately defending Britney Spears. Despite this, my husband and I couldn't help but laugh at the comical voices. One character, in particular, reminded us of Liberace. Hilarious! If you have any concerns, I recommend listening to the provided snippet to get a feel for the narration style.
  • I gave the audiobook of 'Blood Brothers: Sign of Seven, Book 1' a listen and while I found the story to be enjoyable, I was let down by the narration. In fact, I was so disappointed that I decided to opt for the physical copies of the next two books in the series. The narrator's choice to use a comedic falsetto for the women's voices was quite distracting and the accents he selected for certain characters left me puzzled. Nevertheless, Nora Roberts delivers yet another fantastic story, so I suggest experiencing it through the paperback version.
  • I wasn't a fan of how the narrator handled the female voices during the reading. The voices were quite silly and ended up being a distraction for me. As for the book itself, it's alright. It leans towards being quite melodramatic.
