Summary

Catch Me If You Can is the true story of Frank W. Abagnale-alias Frank Williams, Robert Conrad, Frank Adams, and Robert Monjo-one of the most daring con men, forgers, imposters, and escape artists in history. In his brief but notorious criminal career, Abagnale donned a pilot's uniform and copiloted a Pan Am jet, masqueraded as the supervising resident of a hospital, practiced law without a license, passed himself off as a sociology professor, and cashed over $2.5 million in forged checks-all before he was twenty-one. Abagnale lived a sumptuous life on the lam...until the law caught up with him.

  • Alright, so this dude is hella smart, no doubt about it. He's fully aware of his intelligence too. But here's the thing, he's a real piece of work when it comes to how he views and treats women. I reached a point where I couldn't handle hearing another word about his "conquests." The story itself may have been intriguing, but it simply wasn't worth enduring his repulsive boasts about sleeping with yet another woman. I had to return it and get my money back.
  • This audiobook is a delightful and captivating experience. It's truly remarkable how Frank Abagnale, Jr. managed to live a life of crime at such a young age. From the very beginning, you're hooked and eager to find out what he has planned next. I found myself unexpectedly rooting for his clever schemes and cons. This audiobook is perfect for the holiday season and offers valuable insights.
  • Naturally, the popular movie revived the availability of this long-standing book, which serves as a great companion to the film. The book delves into the intricate aspects of how Frank managed to escape the clutches of the law, while providing less emphasis on the relentless FBI agent who chased after him. However, it is evident that we all suffered the consequences of Frank's actions through increased prices. Frank heavily relied on the generosity of strangers, which is why I wasn't overly bothered by his six months of hardship in France. Overall, it remains an outstanding read and comes highly recommended.
  • I really liked hearing about Abagnale's adventures and I gained a lot of knowledge about the airline, banking, and medical industries that used to have poor security measures. The only issue I had was with the outdated language. It was obvious that the book was primarily written in the '70s, with its use of terms like "chicks" and "swinging parties". Once you overlook that, it's an amazing story.
  • This audiobook really nails it when it comes to recounting the incredible tale of how this cunning youngster managed to scam millions of dollars from hotels and banks during his thrilling adventures across the US and Europe. Once you delve into the sections that delve into Abagnale's time behind bars in France, it becomes abundantly clear why that's the last place you'd want to get caught up in illegal activities.
  • This non-fiction tale is absolutely revolting. I have my doubts about its authenticity, and it's quite possible that most of it is simply made up. Regardless, Catch Me If You Can lacks any redeeming aspects.
  • This audiobook had me completely engrossed from start to finish. I was constantly on the edge of my seat, eagerly anticipating what would happen next. However, when it came to an end, I couldn't help but feel that there should be a sequel to continue the story. There appears to be a significant period of time missing between the protagonist's last escape and the present moment. Nonetheless, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
  • I have to admit, I was quite taken aback... I didn't particularly enjoy this book. I picked it up before all the buzz surrounding the movie, thinking that as an accountant, I would find the intricate "con" schemes captivating. However, they turned out to be rather simplistic, and I simply couldn't warm up to the protagonist and his devious plans. The story is set in a time when banking regulations were less stringent and airport security was lax, which made it difficult for me to suspend my disbelief. Nevertheless, I managed to make it through the entire book, so I'll give it a modest two-star rating.
  • I really enjoyed watching the movie, it provided interesting and entertaining content. However, as I delved into the audio recording for about 4 hours, I came to the realization that this author and others like him have greatly damaged trust within our society. Their continuous misrepresentations and fraudulent actions, solely for their own benefit, have undoubtedly caused those who fell for their convincing lies to develop a deep mistrust towards countless honest individuals for the rest of their lives. The tone of the narrator, particularly during the period when the author was posing as a pediatric doctor and endangering children's lives, made me reach my breaking point and ultimately decide to turn it off. Generally, I don't typically listen to murderers recount their stories, and in my opinion, someone who embezzled millions of dollars and conducted themselves in such a manner is, to put it bluntly, no better.
