  • To be real with you, this audiobook was straight up one of the dopest and most challenging ones I've ever listened to. It really hit me in the feels, man, dealing with some heavy stuff, but also showing how these siblings came out on top despite all the crap they went through. It tore me up, but it also gave me hope.
  • The dialogue and descriptions in 'Etched in Sand: A True Story of Five Siblings Who Survived an Unspeakable Childhood on Long Island' were fantastic. The book truly showcased the power of perseverance through its compelling narrative. Overall, it was a highly enjoyable read.
  • This is an absolutely gut-wrenching account of a childhood that is beyond imaginable, penned by a courageous woman who refuses to play the victim card. Regina's unwavering resilience, fierce determination, and indomitable spirit are truly awe-inspiring and uplifting.
  • I absolutely loved this book! It had me hooked from start to finish. The fact that it was narrated by the author herself added so much authenticity and intensity to the emotions conveyed. Now I'm eagerly moving on to "Girl Unbroken".
  • This book really touched my heart and moved me to tears. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it as it was not only well-narrated but also kept me engaged throughout with its suspenseful plot.
  • It breaks my heart as a foster "Gran-T" to see how we foster parents have tarnished our reputation. Instead of being known for our immense love and care for children, we have created an atmosphere where children feel like commodities, unloved and subjected to unimaginable abuse. We have become synonymous with selfishness and indifference, only seeking a paycheck. But this can change! The entire system needs a transformation! We need nationwide protection for children. The jurisdictional boundaries between states must be eliminated. The bureaucratic red tape needs to cease. It's incredulous to think that even with solid evidence, Jesse couldn't be safeguarded. It's unbelievable that a nine-year-old, who has always lived with his grandparents, was uprooted from his home to live with a recovering drug addict father, and is now in foster care. His father, unable to break free from the clutches of drugs, was arrested. Instead of reuniting him with his "gannie" (where he desperately wanted to go), he was placed in foster care and tragically attempted to take his own life. Did the authorities send him to "gannie"? No. He was sent to a mental institution against his will and then transferred to a behavioral "school" that is miles away from his home. They say his eight-year-old sister is also exhibiting troubling behavior and might be next in line for this cycle of suffering. It's disheartening that in 2019, the foster care system is still as flawed as it was in 2012. This child may never have a book written about his experiences, and statistically speaking, his future looks grim. Thank you for sharing your story! I can't say that I "enjoyed" it in any way. There were times when I just wanted to set it aside. However, perhaps it has ignited a righteous anger within me that will push me to make a difference. No child should ever have to endure such a life, not a single one.
