I really enjoyed this story, it was a great read. This is the first book I've read from JF and it definitely lived up to my expectations. However, I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed with the narration. It wasn't bad, but I felt that Spade's character needed a more masculine voice. It felt like I was listening to my teenage daughter trying to sound like a seductive man, and it didn't quite work for me. Despite that, the story itself was really good and I'm eagerly looking forward to the next one!

I highly recommend listening to at least the first three books of the Night Huntress series before diving into this spinoff, 'First Drop of Crimson'. It follows a similar style and captivates just as much as the NH series. The story and romance are great, although it doesn't have the same level of sizzle as the tales of Bones and Cat. Expect to encounter vampires, demons, and shape shifters reminiscent of True Blood. As for the narration, Tavia Gilbert does an okay job. In the Night Huntress series, I had a qualm with the voice she used for Bones. However, in this series, her portrayal of Spade is a vast improvement. On the other hand, Denisse, our heroine, sounds like a fifteen-year-old from the deep South, similar to Sookie. Overall, this series gives off a milder True Blood vibe, offering an enjoyable but less intense experience.
