Summary

With shades of The Hunger Games, Ender’s Game, and Game of Thrones, debut author Pierce Brown’s genre-defying epic Red Rising hit the ground running and wasted no time becoming a sensation. Golden Son continues the stunning saga of Darrow, a rebel forged by tragedy, battling to lead his oppressed people to freedom from the overlords of a brutal elitist future built on lies. Now fully embedded among the Gold ruling class, Darrow continues his work to bring down Society from within. A life-or-death tale of vengeance with an unforgettable hero at its heart, Golden Son guarantees Pierce Brown’s continuing status as one of fiction’s most exciting new voices.

  • I came across a comment expressing concern about starting a series that has been overly hyped, especially when the protagonist is portrayed as too perfect. However, in the case of "Golden Son: Book II of the Red Rising Trilogy," things do not simply fall into place for the hero. While some positive outcomes occur, we also witness some of Darrow's friends relying on their cultural upbringing rather than embracing his noble ideals. I won't spoil it for you by revealing further details. Personally, I dislike it when everything unfolds exactly as I anticipate. That's not how real life works. This second book really packs a punch and took me by surprise. I was so engrossed that I couldn't resist immediately starting book three, unlike the small waiting period I had after finishing book one. During an online search, I discovered conflicting information about the release date of book three. One source mentioned it being scheduled for February 2016, while another post hinted at a release in spring 2016. I sympathize with Nevessa, who expressed their frustration back in March 2014, as I am one and a half years closer to the conclusion of this fantastic series.
  • I thought the initial book was an incredible epic tale, but this second installment felt more like a transitional piece. It didn't quite captivate me in the same way the first book did. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed it, although it didn't quite measure up to the brilliance of the first one.
  • This is my first review, so I'll try to keep it brief. If you're a fan of Abercrombie or the "March to the Stars" John Ringo series, you should definitely get this series. It's not often that a book leaves me wanting more, but that's exactly how I feel now. Come on, Darrow, get up! Mustang, please come back, there's still so much to do! I can't wait to see how the Author wraps up the story!
  • Golden Son: Book II of the Red Rising Trilogy takes the thrilling journey initiated by Red Rising to a whole new level. Filled with intense action, cunning strategies, loyal friendships, and shocking betrayals, this story surpasses its predecessor in every way. Pierce Brown skillfully evokes conflicting emotions within me, as I find myself torn between loving and despising the golds. The impact of this audiobook lingered in my mind for hours, consuming my thoughts completely. This novel is not for the faint-hearted, as it delves into themes of vengeance and compassion, love and hatred, condemnation and redemption, and the duality of glory and suffering. Comparing gold to a cold metal, the author reminds us that it holds immense value and shouldn't be overlooked. Don't miss out on this extraordinary audiobook - grab a copy now!
  • I couldn't help but find myself exclaiming out loud multiple times, "This is absolutely amazing!" while listening to 'Golden Son: Book II of the Red Rising Trilogy' for the second time.
  • I rarely write reviews, but I couldn't resist sharing my thoughts on this book. It's mind-blowing how other YA novels have been turned into movies while this series remains overlooked. Trust me, it's far superior. The story takes you on an exhilarating roller coaster ride that you'll want to experience over and over again. It beautifully combines elements of love, loss, sadness, joy, humor, and hope. And the best part? It avoids those cliché moments where characters are miraculously saved at the last second, which can sometimes strain believability. The narrator of the audiobook also deserves praise for an excellent performance. It's no surprise that this book boasts a well-deserved 5-star rating.
  • The second book in the Red Rising Trilogy, 'Golden Son', unfortunately suffers from the same flaws as its predecessor. It feels a tad too effortless, somewhat predictable, and excessively tailored for mass appeal. However, despite these shortcomings, it manages to capture the reader's attention and reminds them of the thrilling experience of reading early works by Orson Scott Card under the covers with a flashlight. That being said, there is a sense of weariness towards the formulaic trend that seems to dominate the science fiction genre, with franchises such as 'Divergent', 'Hunger Games', and 'Maze Runner' being milked for all they're worth by both publishers and movie studios. In comparison to 'Hunger Games', this series holds its own, but doesn't quite reach the level of being a groundbreaking and truly original science fiction masterpiece. Nevertheless, as a distraction and a guilt-free indulgence, it is almost flawless. It's the kind of story that my children will enjoy, just like they did with 'Hunger Games' and 'Harry Potter', and just like I did with Orson Scott Card's peculiar space sagas when I was younger.
