Summary

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes is a romance novel published in the year 2012. Twenty-six-year-old Louisa Clark lives with her family. She considers herself insignificant due to limited qualifications and ambitions. She loses her job in the local café after it is closed. She goes to the local job center but faces disappointments. After many attempts, she is able to secure a job which requires her to take care of Will Traynor, a successful and wealthy young man who became a victim of motorcycle accident. Will’s mother Camilia offers Louisa the job despite she not having the relevant experience.

Louisa and Will do not get along well initially due to the disability of Will. Will gets worse after her ex-girlfriend Alicia decides to marry his best friend Rupert. Louisa slowly starts to develop a bond with Will. They share their experiences and Will becomes more open and liberal in her company. Louisa learns from Camilia that Will has no intent to live and he had requested Camilia to end his life through an international suicide organization based in Switzerland. Camilia refused Will’s request and this leads to Will attempting suicide. Camilia later agreed to Will’s request on the condition that he will live for another six months.

Louisa attempts her best to ensure that Will abandons his death wish and start enjoying life again. She starts taking Will for outings to make him feel better. Together they also go on a trip to Mauritius where she confides her love for him. The trip does not go as planned by Louisa. Both of them return back and she resigns from her job as Will’s caretaker. What unfolds afterward forms the remainder of the book.
