Summary

What would God say about those who blatantly misrepresent His Holy Spirit; who exchange true worship for chaotic fits of mindless ecstasy; who replace the biblical gospel with vain illusions of health and wealth; who claim to prophesy in His name yet speak errors; and who sell false hope to desperate people for millions of dollars?

  • This audiobook is packed with strong personal opinions and leans towards a conservative perspective. It presents a teacher who is deemed unsound, promoting the idea of a powerless God. The listener is encouraged to break free from the limitations they have imposed on the Creator. The reviewer feels that the audiobook was a waste of both time and money.
  • This book made me reflect on my personal experiences in relation to biblical teachings. I appreciate the effort and dedication put into writing it. The narration may not have been incredibly engaging, but it suited the subject matter well.
  • I really wanted to give this book a better review, but unfortunately, Macarthur has fallen into a pattern that I've sadly come to expect from him. His ego has gotten in the way, making him arrogant and dismissive of his fellow believers. Instead of fostering unity through understanding, he tends to create strawman arguments against those who disagree with him, just to boost his own intellect. Rather than providing a biblical exploration of the exegesis happening within the charismatic movement, Macarthur dedicates each chapter to a smear campaign against selected pastors, mainly those associated with the prosperity gospel. These pastors are widely recognized by most charismatics as preaching an unbiblical message. The book lacks a humble examination of scripture and the claims made about it. Despite having grown up listening to almost every sermon by Macarthur, I've found myself needing to distance myself from his prideful approach to his beliefs. If you're looking for genuine theological work, I suggest seeking elsewhere.
