Summary

The Insanity of God is the personal and lifelong journey of an ordinary couple from rural Kentucky who thought they were going on just your ordinary missionary pilgrimage, but discovered it would be anything but. After spending over six hard years doing relief work in Somalia, and experiencing life where it looked like God had turned away completely and He was clueless about the tragedies of life, the couple had a crisis of faith and left Africa asking God, "Does the gospel work anywhere when it is really a hard place?" It sure didn't work in Somalia.

  • I can't type out everything on my phone, but it's important to mention that this book aligns well with many other Christian historical books and fits in with the stories in the Bible that were divinely inspired. There are stories in this book that are so powerful that they make you realize they are the work of God. The story of the toughest man serves as a great parallel to the Rich Young Ruler story in the Bible, except the right decision is made. The experiences in Somalia and Bithynia, as mentioned in 1 Peter 1, were challenging but served a purpose, and it reminds me of the early days of the SIM with Roland Bingham.
  • If you're questioning the path your life is taking and sense that it's not aligning with your desires, then you absolutely must not overlook the opportunity to listen to this audiobook. It is undeniably invigorating and captivating, serving as both a narrative and an exciting journey. Typically, I gravitate towards mysteries or true crime, but this book has completely shifted my preferences. I cannot stress enough how imperative it is for you to give this audiobook a listen! A heartfelt thank you goes out to Nik and Ruth Ripkin for providing me with one of the most inspiring experiences I've encountered in quite some time.
  • This audiobook is incredibly impactful and thought-provoking. It sheds light on the immense challenges faced by Christians who endure persecution, and how their unwavering faith only grows stronger amidst adversity. It left me contemplating whether this kind of experience is what us believers in the Western world truly need.
  • This book is more than just an intriguing read; it's a genuinely significant piece of literature that brings attention to not only the persecution faced by Christians globally, but also the incredible miracles taking place in the lives of these faithful individuals on a daily basis. Once you start reading, you won't be able to stop, and although it might challenge you, it will ultimately inspire you, strengthen your faith, and leave you astonished!

  • This audiobook is absolutely captivating! It really gets you thinking and leaves you with plenty of food for thought. It presents a challenging perspective that will undoubtedly make a lasting impact on your relationship with God. Prepare to have your perception of both God and the world completely transformed.
  • If you're a believer, especially someone aspiring to be a missionary, this book is an absolute must-read. The stories within its pages will provide you with both encouragement and a fresh perspective that will push you outside of your comfort zone.
  • This book really got to me emotionally. It made me realize just how fortunate we are here in America, and how easy it is to take our blessings for granted. It's a wake-up call that reminds me to always be grateful and appreciate what I have. It also ignited a deep desire in me to travel the world and offer support to those who are tirelessly spreading the message of Jesus Christ.
  • This audiobook tells an inspiring story of how Christians showed incredible strength and resilience in the face of persecution. The majority of the narrative feels authentic and genuine. My only concern is that the author chose to use a pen name, which raises doubts about the veracity of the events. The reason given for adopting a pseudonym doesn't quite convince me.
