  • This book is a real eye-opener, but it's important to have some background knowledge about Islam and the Arab world to fully appreciate it. As a Muslim, I've come across numerous books written by white authors after 9/11 that I intentionally avoided because I knew they were just cashing in on their simplistic and ignorant perspectives, inspired by people like Glen Beck. I was initially hesitant to give this book a chance, but I decided to trust the person who recommended it to me, and I'm so glad I did. It provided me with a deep understanding of how these extremist groups came to be, as well as the role played by the West. While there is some glossing over of the flaws of certain prominent Americans, the author approaches the subject matter with respect and it's clear they put in an immense amount of research. I'm not sure if those who have no prior knowledge of Islam and Arab history will find this book an easy read. It's definitely not something you can listen to while multitasking.
  • This book is awesome! It's really unsettling, but super captivating and enlightening. The author clearly put in a ton of effort to dig deep into this subject. I highly recommend it! It's more proof that our country's leaders should learn how to get along and collaborate!
  • This book is packed with an abundance of fascinating details for those seeking to understand the intense motivations behind Bin Laden and his associates' relentless pursuit to harm America. Absolutely mind-blowing!
  • I couldn't stop listening to this audiobook, it had me hooked from start to finish. Lawrence Wright always chooses fascinating topics to write about, and in my opinion, he has a fantastic narration style. I'm a bit let down that he didn't narrate his other books available on the platform. Furthermore, I wish the book's description didn't give away some of the unexpected plot twists and surprises that I would've discovered while listening to the talented storyteller himself. If you're checking out these reviews before diving in, I recommend skipping the summary altogether.
  • The narration in 'The Looming Tower: Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11' was absolutely brilliant. It really grabbed my attention and brought the story to life. Speaking of the story, it was incredibly touching and emotionally impactful. I found myself deeply engaged and invested in the events unfolding. And to top it off, I actually learned more than I had anticipated. This audiobook exceeded my expectations in terms of educational value.
  • This book is absolutely incredible, hands down one of the best non-fiction reads out there. The only thing I would've loved to see different is the ending. We all know what happens, the Towers come crashing down, but the author has this uncanny ability to make you relive the sorrow and anguish as if it were happening all over again. And what's even more impressive is how he humanizes the individuals involved to such a degree that they'll forever be etched in your memory. This is truly one of the all-time greats and I highly recommend giving it a read or a listen, or even better, both. Let's never forget.
  • The book does a fantastic job of delving into the origins of Osama and Al Qaeda, shedding light on the terrorists' ideology and providing a comprehensive account of the events leading up to 9/11. It also explores potential prevention measures that could have been taken. Towards the conclusion of the book, the narrator's voice subtly trembles as he delivers the emotionally charged climax of the story. It's a great decision to include this in the audio book, as it adds an extra layer of depth to the narrative, amplifying the reader's own sentiments upon reaching the end.
