Summary
Life has a way of provoking us with traffic jams and computer malfunctions, with emotionally distant partners and crying children-and before we know it, we're upset. We feel terrible, and then we end up saying and doing things that only make matters worse. But it doesn't have to be that way, says Pema Chödrön. It is possible to relate constructively to the inevitable shocks, losses, and frustrations of life so that we can find true happiness. The key, Pema explains, is not biting the "hook" of our habitual responses. In this recorded weekend retreat, Pema draws on Buddhist teachings from The Way of the Bodhisattva to reveal how we can:
In general, this audiobook serves as a helpful reminder of concepts we are already familiar with but often struggle to implement. I particularly liked the way Pema addressed the question regarding whether anger should be treated with medication or meditation. It's important to consider seeking guidance from mental health professionals to determine whether medication or a combination of meditation and medication is necessary, as this can vary based on the specific type of anger one is experiencing.
A couple of years ago, I borrowed this book from the library and was stoked to see it available on the service. Despite not being familiar with Buddhist ideas, it didn't hold me back from appreciating it. Pema Chodron's narration was delightful, and her wit really came across.
Pema, the author, is an amazing teacher who leads us on a transformative adventure...anger and resentment are exposed, and the urge to escape from them dissipates. This audiobook offers three hours of profound insight suitable for everyone! Get ready to absorb this valuable content repeatedly.
