I've been digging this series, but man, this one was a major letdown. The ending felt hella rushed and didn't give me that satisfying closure I was craving. And let's talk about the narrator, she's the pits. There's like zero variation in her voice, and she manages to make all the beloved characters sound like complete idiots. It's a damn shame, really.
I'm a big fan of the Under Suspicion series, so when I discovered that Jan wasn't narrating this story, I approached it with an open mind. Now, don't get me wrong, but Heather Lind just doesn't live up to Jan Maxwell's performance, and I had to really make an effort to stay engaged with the story instead of being distracted by the voice. The plot itself was fantastic, with a captivating twist that took me by surprise. However, if you're as hooked on the series as I am, you'll figure out a way to overlook Heather Lind's monotonous and lackluster delivery.
As someone who has been a fan of Mary Higgins Clark for a long time, I'm thoroughly enjoying this series that she's co-writing with Alafair Burke. The way they develop the characters and weave together intriguing stories is truly captivating. This particular book, "Every Breath You Take: An Under Suspicion Novel," is a delightful mystery with just the right touch of romance. It's like a perfect little indulgence that keeps me hooked from start to finish.
