New Orleans belongs to me. You don't know my name, but I control everything you see-and all the things you don't. My reach knows no bounds, and my demands are always met. I didn't need to loan money to a failing family distillery, but it amuses me to have them in my debt. To have her in my debt. She doesn't know she caught my attention. She should've been more careful. I'm going to own her. Consume her. Maybe even keep her. It's time to collect what I'm owed. Keira Kilgore, you're now the property of Lachlan Mount.

  • In the Beneath series, you get a glimpse of who Mount really is as a character. I was anticipating a powerful performance from the male narrator, but unfortunately, that didn't come through. I felt that the story would have been better suited with Sebastian York's narration. Despite this letdown, I'm still engrossed in the storyline and will proceed with the next two books.
  • I've read several other books by Meghan March and typically enjoy her work, but I must say that this particular book was a major disappointment. The storyline revolves around a woman who is taken hostage, her family is threatened, and she is coerced into performing sexual acts against her will. Let me tell you, there is absolutely nothing enticing or alluring about any of that! It's downright terrifying! I couldn't connect with any of the characters in the book, except for feeling a strong sense of disgust and anger towards them. It honestly feels like the sole purpose of this book was to include explicit sex scenes. Despite my initial hopes, I continued listening to the entire book, desperately hoping it would improve, but unfortunately, it never did. I'm going to give another series by Meghan March a try and hope to see her true talents shine through.
  • When a woman's ability to refuse consent is taken away, resulting in coerced sexual activity, it constitutes rape. Likewise, developing emotional attachment to a captor is commonly referred to as Stockholm syndrome.
