Summary

'This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why; so that no one need by destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life.' Those familiar with any part of the Bible will recognize John 3:16, with a mind-altering difference. The words are fresh, new, and sound like the 21st century. That's because they are from The Message, a presentation of the Word of God crafted for the modern age. Eugene H. Peterson, translator and editor, learned from his years of teaching and pastoring that most people, through familiarity or frustration with the Bible, were missing the whole message of Scripture, 'the Word that God uses to create and save us, heal and bless us, judge and rule over us.' So, he set out to give us that Word in language we use every day - an audio Bible that would penetrate our hearts and minds, transforming us day by day into the person God desires us to be. For more than 6 million readers, EugenePeterson's unique style has opened up new understanding and insight into God's Word.

  • I really enjoy the way The Message presents the New Testament, as it encourages you to approach Scripture and its stories from a new perspective. However, I did find the narrator's delivery to be somewhat repetitive, which made it feel monotonous after the initial 45 minutes. It's important to note that I wouldn't want this issue to discourage anyone from experiencing The Message and its powerful truths, as well as its introduction to the incredible man named Jesus, who is God. Instead, I'm hoping to discover a Bible audiobook service that will reignite my enthusiasm and make me eager to return to it. In general, listening to scripture is an excellent method for learning, retaining, and integrating it into our daily lives.
  • I had a great time listening to this rendition while I was doing mind-numbing tasks around the house. With its incorporation of current expressions, casual language, and everyday lingo, it's incredibly simple to comprehend. When they incorporate phrases like self-improvement, contemporary spirituality, or even things (George Carlin vibes?), I connect with the essence of His teachings in a way I haven't experienced before. It's definitely worth your time to give it a listen.
  • This dude seriously needs to step up his game! Was he whispering, sounding all raspy, or desperately in need of a drink? I tried slowing it down, cranking up the speed, listening with headphones underwater, and even amplifying it with a megaphone. But nothing managed to make his voice agreeable to my ears! The intensity level of this guy made it pretty challenging to fully appreciate the awesome content of this New Testament edition.
