Summary

Back on the job after an involuntary leave of absence, LAPD homicide detective Harry Bosch is ready for a challenge. But his first case is a little more than he bargained for. It starts with the body of a Hollywood producer in the trunk of a Rolls-Royce, shot twice in the head at close range - what looks like "trunk music," a Mafia hit. But the LAPD's organized crime unit is curiously uninterested, and when Harry follows a trail of gambling debts to Las Vegas, the case suddenly becomes more complex - and much more personal. A rekindled romance with an old girlfriend opens new perspectives on the murder, and he begins to glimpse a shocking triangle of corruption and collusion. Yanked off the case, Harry himself is soon the one being investigated. But only a bullet can stop Harry when he's searching for the truth . . .

  • I started off with the first book in the Bosch series and all of them have been great purchases. However, this one stands out from the rest. It had a smooth flow, filled with thrilling action and only a few slow moments. It had enough unexpected turns to keep me engaged. Usually, by the fifth book in a series, the quality tends to decline. The formula becomes blatantly obvious and you're ready to call it quits within an hour. But that's not the case with this series. Connelly possesses a unique talent for making each book stand on its own and swiftly immersing you into the action. It's truly a rare find based on my experience. I'm eagerly looking forward to the next Bosch book. I highly recommend it.
  • I'm really digging spending time with Harry Bosch in this audiobook, "Trunk Music: Harry Bosch Series, Book 5". It's an absolute blast with loads of suspense, unexpected twists, and delightful surprises. This criminal thriller is incredibly entertaining. Michael Connelly is definitely one of the top authors in this genre, right alongside Lee Child. But I gotta give it to Child for his incredible portrayal of the Reacher character - his unique quirks, witty phrases, and overall likability. While Harry Bosch may not be as well-developed and comes across as a bit more cynical and older, I'm still absolutely hooked on this series.
  • Trunk Music falls into the earlier entries of the Harry Bosch series. Once again, Harry finds himself in conflict with both the LAPD and the FBI, leading to an Internal Affairs Division investigation. This book is a thrilling ride, filled with plenty of unexpected plot twists, corrupt cops, and dangerous mobsters. As the story unfolds, Bosch deepens his connections with his recurring partners, Jerry and Kiz, forms a bond with his supervisor Grace Billet, and even ties the knot with his past love Eleanor Wish. Along the way, Harry not only solves his own case but also assists the FBI in cracking theirs. Spending 13 hours with this gripping tale is an absolute treat.
